A suspect in Lakewood is facing murder charges after allegedly fatally shooting a man trying to steal a Catalytic Converter off of his truck, dragging him through a parking lot and leaving him in a field to die.
Authorities said a truck driver in Lakewood alerted authorities at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday after he spotted Michael Campbell, 54, dragging a body behind a truck and taking off.
The Lakewood Police Department found a body belonging to a man in his 40's in the field where the driver spotted the truck.
Investigators found Campbell, who told authorities he was awakened by a loud noise vibrating his truck while he was sleeping in the back. He said he shot the victim in the face, tied his hands above his head to his truck and drove off with him tied to the vehicle.
Officers said Campbell dragged the victim about 400 feet through a gravel parking lot to a field where he left them.
Campbell did not show remorse for the murder, authorities said.
Authorities said the 54-year-old was booked for murder.
I like how they point out that he felt no remorse. LOL, really? Ya think?
How is this a crime?
Some crack head is messing with your car? And you defend your property?
How is this a crime?
This was in Washington state.
Lawyers hate instant justice. There’s no money in it for them.
I feel sorry for the truck owner.
Thief got what he deserved.
No chip?
Dumbass chose poorly.
Depends on the state.
How much are catalytic converters worth on the black market?
So if they guy was sleeping in his truck isn’t that basically the same thing as his home? So the castle doctrine?
“And then he lunged at me saying he was going to kill me. I was in fear for my life so I fired until the threat to my life was eliminated.”
“Oh yeah, and about that dragging part ... uh ....”
Why is this not a justifiable kill?
Poor guy was still alive while being dragged, according to other sources (The News Tribune).

Behind a pay wall. :-(
Exactly. The shooting part I think we can all understand.
The dragging his body behind the truck to leave out in the field? Yeah, not a good idea.
What a stupid state.
Regardless, the man was in the truck. Go take a chance with a jury.
I’d vote to give him a medal.
#9.
“..dragged the victim 400 feet through a gravel parking lot.”
Undue force, aka Over-Kill.
Removing the catalytic converter is a threat to the life of Gaia.
Shooting justified.
