I’m not defending Bibi but I understand that liberal Jews in NYC are farther left than any of the Squad members and they are very influential when it comes to politics in Israel.
So it goes that Netanyahu had to dance to their tune or at least appear to, It would be great to have an Israeli PM that can flip off the NYC Jewish libs but I’m not sure that’s possible because Israel is still dependent on certain interests in the US.
Your Mitt Romney analogy is on the mark. That’s the best way to describe what’s going on to American conservatives that can’t fathom Israeli politics.
Likud is Netanyahu's party. I think you are confusing them with Yamina, which is Bennet's party.
Liked desertions forced him out. Gideon Saar took a bunch of Likud with him leaving Netanyahu without his base intact.
Meanwhile, Bennett played patty-cake with Lapid and others he previously swore to never do deals with.
But it was Likud members pulling away that did Netanyahu in.
