Benjamin Netanyahu ousted as Israeli PM, ends 12-year rule of Jewish state

Benjamin Netanyahu, the longest serving Israeli leader, was ousted as prime minister on Sunday after the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, voted to form a new government made up of a coalition of opposition groups pledging to heal caustic divisions caused by Netanyahu’s 12-year rule.

Netanyahu had failed to form a government after a March 23 election — the fourth in two years — and could not block the power-sharing agreement between the groups, headed by his former defense minister Naftali Bennett and opposition leader Yair Lapid.

Bennett and Lapid will each serve two years as prime minister on a rotating basis.

I’m not defending Bibi but I understand that liberal Jews in NYC are farther left than any of the Squad members and they are very influential when it comes to politics in Israel.

So it goes that Netanyahu had to dance to their tune or at least appear to, It would be great to have an Israeli PM that can flip off the NYC Jewish libs but I’m not sure that’s possible because Israel is still dependent on certain interests in the US.

Your Mitt Romney analogy is on the mark. That’s the best way to describe what’s going on to American conservatives that can’t fathom Israeli politics.

Likud is far right to the point that they are loathed by thinking Israelis everywhere. Repeat, Likud is not at all liked in Israel, they are taking advantage of a fractured government to get inside and they will be thrown out in due time because the Israeli people won’t put up with them. Likud is not conservative in principle, they are power lusters willing to start and expand wars to keep their power.

Likud is Netanyahu's party. I think you are confusing them with Yamina, which is Bennet's party.

Liked desertions forced him out. Gideon Saar took a bunch of Likud with him leaving Netanyahu without his base intact.

Meanwhile, Bennett played patty-cake with Lapid and others he previously swore to never do deals with.

But it was Likud members pulling away that did Netanyahu in.
