Price Shock: Inflation Soars to 29-Year High
Breitbart ^ | 28 May 2021 | JOHN CARNEY

Posted on 05/28/2021 10:15:13 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

A key measure of inflation accelerated to a faster-than-expected 3.1 percent annual gain in April, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

The last time the core personal consumption expenditures index hit 3.1 percent was in May of 1992, when George H. W. Bush was president and inflation was still recovering from the stagflationary 1970s era.

Federal Reserve officials consider core PCE inflation, which excludes food and energy, to be their primary gauge of price stability, one-half of the central’s bank’s core aims in formulating monetary policy. The other half is maximizing employment.

Prices of many items fell last year as the pandemic struck and lockdowns were implemented in an effort to contain the spread of the virus. As a result, year-over-year measures of inflation are expected to be very high over the next few months, reflecting what economists call a “base effect.”

Everybody paying attention expected this. And it’s just warming up its motor.

Gold and silver are not the best “growth” investments out there and are more of an inflation hedge, but I think a person would be crazy to sell right now unless they just had to.

Somebody told me they saw someone on MSNBC, who said inflation was not a problem, and was not going to be a problem.

At the most basic level, isn’t inflation caused by increases in the money supply? And hasn’t the money supply increased substantially?

It'd be a lot higher of CPI included groceries, gas, and housing price increases. You know, basic necessities aren't important enough to track for inflation rate.

Have you tried to buy a gun, ammo or reloading components?

Some rifle brass when you can find it is going for $2 each.

Most are around $1 each.

Primers are totally unavailable. What you have is what you are going to get.

The small amount of bullets that you can find for sale are all exotic self defense rounds. Selling at 4 times the price for normal ammo.

Yes, Lots of stuff has gone nuts on price.

The #ComDem’s plan on fully destroying the economy and the nation. Make us slaves.

My friends and I here in Texas refuse to participate.

The Biden years are upon us. And there are among us who do not believe that Trump won. The next step is general poverty.
We are no longer a viable country.

...accelerated to a faster-than-expected...

Yep, just another way of saying "unexpected".

Man, these Liberals are brain dead. Of course, when a guy as damaged as Biden is your standard-bearer, there can't be much hope for your team.

... isn't inflation caused by increases in the money supply?

It is, and the money supply has been increasing by around 38% yearly. To reach equilibrium takes awhile but we will be experiencing 38% soon

Welcome to Biden World.

This sort of inflation leads to a Venezuelan Death Spiral. That is to say, if you might need something later this year, the impulse is to not defer your purchase but buy it now, thus dumping more money into the fire, and the fire grows hotter.

Your neighbors and businesses are doing the same thing. More inflation, and more, and more, and more.

Come, give Biden time. He can crash things better than that.

Trump is nothing special. Biden will have all sorts of
records!

Trump’s: Really great

Biden’s: Really not

I have lots of bullets, brass, powder and enough primers for a while.

Have some small holes in the inventory, but am not out.

I don’t shoot an AR or an AK. But I can reload it.

I grew up hunting and reloading.

We will get by.

Refer to the book This Time is Different: Eight Centuries of Economic Folly.

Unfortunately for us each disaster is the same, the cause of which is excused away by pretending to be more intelligent and knowledgeable than our predecessors.
