The attorney representing the family of Ashli Babbitt, the woman shot and killed by U.S. Capitol Police during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, plans to sue the agency for more than $10 million and has already put officials on notice, demanding accountability for the slain Air Force veteran.
“Right now, we have no accountability — zero accountability — they give no explanation to justify the shooting and they do not even identify the officer. That is what they do in autocratic countries, not in the United States,” said Terrell N. Roberts III, a Maryland-based attorney.
Mr. Roberts takes issue with those members of Congress who oversee the Capitol Police but who have not demanded transparency when it comes to the Jan. 6 shooting.
“If we call ourselves a free people, you would think that Congress would be the first to demand transparency of its own police agency but you don’t hear that.”
Rep. Paul Gosar, Arizona Republican, demanded to know who “executed” Babbitt during a hearing earlier this month with former Trump administration officials probing the events of Jan. 6.

But she’s not black and she wasn’t high on drugs, she wasn’t recidivist criminal, she didn’t rob a pregnant woman in her home at gunpoint, she wasn’t resisting and fighting the police. If she were they would have been awarded $27 million like the family of St. George Floyd. Instead it will be dismissed.
Shot her? Yes but, more precisely, he ASSASSINATED her. Was he a “lone wolf” or was he directed?

A cop kills a citizen and the government closes ranks, absolves him in secret, and stonewalls the public?
I know of no precedent in either State or Federal law allowing them to do that. They are just making it up as they go.
I really wonder what the excuse will be for “and shot the unarmed woman in the back, killing her.” It causes riots and fires when it’s “and shot the unarmed black man in the back, killing him.”
Wonder what the difference is. This is a nation of equal justice for all under the laws, isn’t it?

Whomever shot her has bigger and badder attorneys than her family will ever be able to afford.
She is the ONLY person killed on Jan 6th.

The family does not have standing. Their suit will go nowhere.
If in fact Ashli was even shot and killed, the family will need to know who did it.
Other than trespassing she committed NO CRIME.

These abuses of police power take a long time to have heard. It should not be so, but it is.
It took 4 years on the Waco Biker shooting and not a single case has been tried. And all the remaining charges have been dropped.
