Stevens grew up in Scarsdale, New York and San Antonio, Texas. She attained a doctorate in comparative literature from UC Berkeley in 2001 with a dissertation on Fernando Pessoa: A Local Habitation and a Name: Heteronymy and Nationalism in the works of Fernando Pessoa.
She joined Slate in mid-2003, writing the magazine's Surfergirl column on television and pop-culture. Before joining Slate she wrote under the pseudonym "Liz Penn" on her own (now defunct) website/blog called the High Sign. She has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post Book World, Bookforum, and The Atlantic and has appeared on several occasions on Charlie Rose and The Brian Lehrer Show. She is a regular on Slate's Culture Gabfest.
Stevens has described herself as "an atheist raised in culturally Christian milieu". She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
She can wear a mask if she wants to. I really don’t care. Hell. She can wear a full burka, for all I care.
Just DO.NOT.EXPECT.ME. to wear that crap and we will get along just fine.
I hope libs continue to breathe in 50% CO2 for the next couple of years.
This one is scared of her own shadow I see. LOL!
Better get used to it, there are a lot of them. Who cares?
Dear Dana - please continue wearing as many masks as you want. We don’t care. Just PLEASE don’t take your clothes off.
Thanks
The Male Population
After I read through the article, the site listed the most popular articles from recent issues of the Atlantic; if I recall correctly, the second most popular had something to do with the evolutionary origin of many of their contributors, presumably including this Stevens person.
I don’t want to see her dumb ole face anyway. Maybe her teeth will rot.
Oh. So she’s one of them there west-coast intellectuals.
That explains it.
I’ll excuse you for wearing one if you’ll excuse me for not wearing one.
IOW, by her own admission, she's virtue signalling.
Oh.
Knock yourself out, dummy. She needs to see the lab tests on masks worn for any length of time. Nasty.
The vaccines are remarkably effective, but not 100%.
Which is why she keeps wearing a cloth mask that is ...oh lets see......0% effective. Honestly who cares what an atheist thinks.
So ?
Wear a mask, leave me alone!
I don’t have a problem with others wearing masks. The Japanese, the immune compromised, the public transport commuter... the afraid...whomever.
not my problem or issue.
Truth for me is that I daily come in contact with my brother who has had a liver transplant. We have all gotten the vaccine, but his immune system is so compromised that even after the vaccine his body has not developed any immunity. We do not wear masks when together inside or outside. But, I’ll still mask at stores in the chance that I could pick up the virus and pass it to him.
It’s still somewhat a free country and if she is dumb enough to wear a mask, rubber gloves or a haz-mat suit to assuage her fear after having been duped by the COVID panic mongers let her do it. However, don’t let her look condescendingly at those of us who make our own choices.
Childish. Simply childish.
I’m beginning to think that everyone who remains masked ARE the vaccinated ones.
