Matt Gaetz names former DOJ official he says tried to extort his family for $25 million

David McGee, an attorney with Beggs & Lane, is the man the Florida Republican named during an appearance Tuesday evening on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show in which he responded to reports that he is under federal investigation over a former relationship.

McGee served for six years as the first assistant at the U.S. Attorney’s Office and for seven years as the lead attorney for a Justice Department's Organized Crime Task Force, according to his biography on the website of his law firm, which is based in Pensacola, Florida.

The New York Times reported Gaetz, 38, is being looked at as part of a broader investigation into local Florida official Joel Greenberg, a political ally who was indicted last summer on an array of charges, including sex trafficking of a minor and financially supporting people in exchange for sex, at least one of whom was an underage girl.

Investigators are said to be examining whether Gaetz had a sexual relationship two years ago with a girl believed to have been 17 at the time and paid her to travel with him. Specifically authorities are trying to determine whether he violated federal sex trafficking laws.

Gaetz told Carlson that the FBI, alongside the Department of Justice, had his father wear a wire to eavesdrop on conversations between him and McGee, who the lawmaker alleged was trying to receive $25 million in exchange for making the allegations disappear. The Florida Republican said his father was set to catch McGee on Wednesday in the act demanding "4.5 million" as a "down payment" on the "bribe," adding further that the New York Times leak hampered the investigation.

Wow, you heard that tripe you spewed and you now judge “he’s not telling the full truth”?

You make me ill! Why are you here? Wouldn’t another site represent your supreme judgement skills far better?

“The best way to evaluate it is with caution and circumspection.”

True. The best way to evaluate a conclusion is to be ethical : be circumspect about possible consequences and be cautious about possible obstacles. What happens if the NYT successfully calumniates a young Republican leader? Well, the NYT will calumniate more. What prevents a young Republican leader from advancing? A lack of circumspection and caution.

One thing for sure. Gaetz is an expert politician. He will get through this fake news by the NYT.

I would not expect anything less from the crew at the justice department. Trump fell way short of cleaning that place up.

Tucked said it was the weirdest interview he ever gave. Lol. That’s saying a lot considering who he’s interviewed.

And yet, there are those on this thread defending Gaetz as if all the wierd shit he said during that interview was perfectly normal.

Then they post to me like I'm the enemy. No, THEY ARE. How do I know I've hit the target? The flak I'm taking.

There's something very wrong with Gaetz's interview on Carlson's show last night. My opinion of course, then again there seem to be some on this thread who are acting like progressive democrats attacking those who have different opinions than they do. ROFL! They're so stupid they don't even know they've outed themselves yet.

How do you get from there to someone thinking they can get $4.5M as an extortion payoff?
Why not just ignore the blackmailer?

A few years back, I was an alternate juror on a criminal trial - an adult male was charged with having sexual contact with an underage female. Both parties agreed that the unfortunate gentleman did NOT know the young lady was a minor: she had repeatedly told him she was an adult student at the college campus where they met.

Both parties also offered similar descriptions of the gentleman's reaction, when the young lady finally admitted she was a juvenile, and still attending the local high school: he jumped to his feet, and ran from the residence, literally screaming in terror. He was nevertheless being prosecuted by the State for sexual contact with a minor.

I am quite certain that defendent was not the first - or the last - man to have unknowingly had a relationship with an underage female. And given that even obvious and undeniable ignorance is apparently no defence in a court of law, any such relationship (or even an unsubstantiated claim regarding such a relationship) might be a useful tool to a blackmailer or extortionist...

I point out your hypocrisy, you respond with personal attack. Hmm...which political party members do that all the time?

Very solid observation. I forget—Who said the above? Oh wait, you did. On your about page here.

The way you are attacking conservatives here on this thread, perhaps you should take your own advice.

So Gaetz provided flights and hotel rooms for a 17 year old he wasn’t “dating”? I’m sorry, this stinks to high heaven. Gaetz is hiding something. He’s not telling the full truth.

Why do you think he is hiding something and not telling the “full truth”?

What makes you think the FBI wasn’t trying to entrap him (and his family) by one of their ROUTINE devious schemes? THAT’S ABOUT THE ONLY THING THE FBI REMAINS CAPABLE OF DOING! THAT is far more likely, IMHO, than Gaetz hiding something.

By the way, Congressman Gaetz’ fiancé has a brother who is a self made billionaire. I don’t know about his father. If money was a motive somehow... it’s in the family.

Hey, the DOJ/FBI did the dirty on Trump and NOBODY went to jail - so now anyone is fair game. If they can screw the POTUS, a US Rep should be easy-peasy - and even if they're found out, nobody goes to jail.

Good analysis. Thankfully Gaetz is no pushover, and seems to have turned the tables on this one at least some.

So now we’re going after yet another rising Republican star? Funny how that happens.

How do you know he’s not telling the full truth? Are you working with the people accusing him, for you to be “in the know”?

Gaetz is a relatively young guy. I do not endorse his personal life. But he’s been a bulldog for MAGA.

I’ll wait until we hear the facts of the case.

Gaetz has fought harder for Trump than Trump did. This is the payback the DOJ is giving him.

Your comprehension is very weak. He stated there is no 17 year old. He has provided meals and flights for dates who are of legal age.

Gaetz did a preemptive counterstrike against the former DOJ official McGee (and possibly others at DOJ back then), his law firm, possibly the whole Democrat Party who is on a smear campaign against Republicans, and the New York Times (for a massive lawsuit for defamation/slander/libel) in the future.

The Dems see Gaetz as a major threat to them because he’s aggressive in exposing their Marxist plans, disinformation and lies and major threat if he ever becomes one of Florida’s senators. He’s also a “go-getter” in terms of information on various issues and then uses it to expose their campaign/congressional and media lies.

He cannot be allowed to “live” a political career.

The NY Times is the spearpoint of a major Democrat Party smear/disinformation operation against all key Republicans in Congress or running for Congress. The DP is using “cut-outs” and fronts (i.e. law firms, such as they did with Perkins-Coie in the fake smear “Golden Shower” campaign against presidential candidate Donald Trump thru a complex money-laundering scheme with Fusion GPS), the Clinton Foundation/groups, Dem Party operations, the psychopathic Trump-hater Steele, and the Deep State within the DOJ/FBI, etc.

If Gaetz can prove that HE DID NOT have a teenage travel companion on alleged airplane trips (ticket records should prove this which would destroy the NYT’s story just as Papadopoulous/Carter Page, etc. did about alleged visits to cities in Europe to meet with Russian agents via Halper, Mifsud, etc. and other “fake” travel/meeting stories.

Gaetz called for DOJ/FBI to release the wiretap tapes between his father and the reported extortionist re meetings, payments, etc. That is why they used the NY Times to do a preemptive smear article the day before the meeting was to take place. WHO TIPPED OFF THE NYT ABOUT THIS DOJ/FBI PLANNED AND/OR MONITORED MEETING?

IS THIS A CRIME BY THE TIPPER AND BY THE RECEIVER, THE NYT, INCLUDING “interfering with an ongoing federal investigation”, exposing potential prosecution evidence, prejudicing a potential jury pool, etc.???

Someone inside DOJ/FBI I’ll bet. Perhaps one of the Strzok/Ohrs/Weissman/McCabe etc anti-Trump band of traitors. Makes sense to me.

If DOJ/FBI don’t release the tapes because they will claim that it is “possible charging/prosecution, a legitimate position in some cases, then does GAETZ have a right to release theme if he has them and wants to (or will save them for lawsuits in the near future)?

Is this Biden’s equivalent “Waterloo” to the false testimony of Balsey’s made-up Kavanaugh charges/testimony?

According to you, by my providing air fair and hotel accommodation for my daughter to visit me in Hawaii I would possibly be accused of incest?

I was just commenting earlier that there is something “off” with Gaetz. This was before I heard about this issue. I am suspicious that this is some sort of entrapment, and the DOJ has set Gaetz up, but there is still something about him I don’t trust. He seems emotionally unstable and impulsive. He has been a reliable conservative vote, but something isn’t right about him.

This move against Gaetz is interesting. Accuser David McGee is a former DoJ guy who CLAIMS to be a ‘friend’ of Bob Levinson, the former FBI [CIA?] agent who traveled to Iran’s Kish Island and met with a black American and convert to Islam fugitive who defected to Iran after assassinating a Shah loyalist official in Washington DC back in the 80s. The Iranians had the guy working for a state run news outlet after his defection, maybe it was IranTV. The first US story about Levinson claimed he was following leads in a case about cigarette smuggling in the Persian Gulf region on behalf of a British company when he went missing. Apparently Levinson died in Iranian hands.

Also involved in the Levinson case was an FBI/DoJ investigator, a woman named Gritz. Gritz was involved in a sexual harassment case against Andrew McCabe and in that matter Gen. Michael Flynn may have pissed off McCabe by standing up for Gritz, whose Levinson investigation was being blocked by McCabe.

Retired FBI employee Levinson reportedly went missing after meeting with the fugitive assassin while working for the British American Tobacco Company. Speculation was he was in the gulf region for other reasons, either looking into Hezbollah or something about Russian organized crime. Anyway, this company, BAT, years later, appears in this story...

In the race to come up with a viable vaccine for the novel coronavirus, many groups around the world have been diving into the effort with a great sense of urgency. Various hospitals, universities and even bio-tech companies (some of whom have never produced a vaccine before) have gotten in on the action. But I’ll confess that I didn’t anticipate hearing about tobacco companies entering the competition. And yet, here we are. One of the biggest tobacco companies in the world, British American Tobacco, has somehow developed a vaccine that they say shows great promise and they’re ready to...
