Reporters Banned from Using The Term ‘Illegal Immigrant’

The Worthless Wall Street Journal is banning its reporters from using the terms “illegal immigrant” and “illegal” when referring to illegal aliens living in the US.

In an update in ts style guide, the WSJ, which owned by billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., stated that while it will allow reporters to continue using the term “illegal immigration” to describe the process of illegal aliens arriving and staying in the US, it will no longer allow reporters to describe individuals as “illegal” or “illegal immigrant”.

It is, they said, all in an effort to stop “labeling people.”

So we can't use black, white, Hispanic, gay, feminist, trans, fascist, Nazi, right-wing, left-wing, liberal, progressive, white-supremacist, felon, criminal, Muslim, Jew, Christian, American, German, or Iraqi? Are we all now just "x" or "z"? There are no meaningful distinctions whatsoever between different groups of people?

The WSJ is just playing games and saying nonsense; this is a very specific ban which in no way touches on the innumerable labels - whether neutral, positive, or negative - that are necessary and are routinely used in the media and in common discourse.

I don't think so Steve. The term "criminal" is a bit too harsh sounding and has a very negative stigma attached to it.

Something like, rascal or 'mischievous' instead of "criminal" should be considered.

Well as an IMMIGRANT I will use the lawful term illegal alien whenever its necessary...and thats whenever I am referring to a person who is illegally in my country...

The WSJ is correct...They are not IMMIGRAMTS ....they do not IMMIGRATE....

I’ll never forget when Ted Turner told all his Turner Broadcasting affiliates that the word “foreign” was not to be used. “We are citizens of the world,” Turner said at the time. “Nobody is foreign to us.” Instead, reporters were to look for other words such as “international”.

The next night, during an Atlanta Braves game, the irrepressible Skip Caray noted there was a timeout on the field as the umpires checked a pitcher suspected of doctoring the baseballs. “I guess the umpire is looking for an international substance on the pitcher’s glove”.
