Volvo says it will make only electric vehicles by 2030. But if you want one, you’ll have to buy it online.
The Swedish automaker said Tuesday that it is phasing out the production of all cars with internal combustion engines — including hybrids.
“There is no long-term future for cars with an internal combustion engine,” said Henrik Green, Volvo’s chief technology officer.
Volvo’s announcement follows General Motors’ pledge earlier this year to make only battery-powered vehicles by 2035.

Nice post AFCH
Too expensive.
No need to read anything. Home service is 240V and 240 times 50 is 12 kW. A Tesla has a 100 kWh battery, so charging it takes 100/12 or 8.3 hours with no losses and no stopping to let the battery cool. I would count on 12 hours to charge from enmpty to full. With a 120v outlet the times are double. With more the 50 amps the times there's a proportional drop in charging time.
Yeah, I don’t think the implications of transitioning from a gas model, which has been in place for a century, to an electric model are largely unknown. Electric companies will need to build more plants, which takes time and money (and will probably still use fossil fuels); gas tax revenues will plummet, which means the government will start taxing drivers by the mile; and the cost of operating vehicles will rise.
Don't go on vacation with it. Just sayin' ...
I still have my 2003 GMC Envoy Denali which has 210,000 miles on it. Besides brakes, tires, batteries, oil changes and recently new coil packs and spark plugs it's still going strong and showing no signs of quitting anytime soon.
My favorite thing to do with it is to take it out in heavy snow, put it in 4x4 mode and go through the unplowed parking lots with it. One lot had 27" of snow on it and it went through it like butter throwing snow everywhere. :-) They just don't build 'em like that anymore.
Got anything else really dumb to say?
Volvo working hard to go the way of the Saab. Idiots.
“What’s the relevance of purchasing online to elecrification of cars?”
No idea - but it suggests they are willing to partly sacrifice the dealer “sales” network. From the article:
“Volvo also said that, [] its all-electric vehicles will be sold exclusively online”
Volvo is Chinese now not Swedish.
” Electric cars are improving by leaps and bounds. “
Still cannot overcome much. Leaps and bounds?? Hardly. They are still ridiculous city dweller vehicles.
“suggests they are willing to partly sacrifice the dealer “sales” network”
Dealers also service the cars so they’re gonna be there unless they become only service centers.
But new cars are like jewelry and people are going to want to look at and drive them before purchasing, I would think.
I have a better solution. Simply buy a gas powered generator and toe it behind your car. You can recharge the car at night .
I would argue that the wires in question are telephone wires, not electric
Indeed hydrogen vehicles replace electric vehicles.
...hope it's not wind mills and solar panels, lol...
...(but FYI, your picture is of communication cable, not power)...
If you do go on vacation, there are fast charger stations all over the usa, one hour while you eat your meal.
