Merrick Garland, the man Obama wanted to put on the SCOTUS, is now President Biden's choice to be his attorney general. Based on what we heard Monday, we can breathe a sigh of relief that he never made it onto the Supreme Court.
p>But then again, those whom Trump did get confirmed for the court have thoroughly abdicated their responsibility, betrayed the oath they took as justices. With the exception of Justices Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch, it appears there are no other actual constitutionalists seated there.

But back to Garland. He evaded answering most questions posed by Republicans. He compared the January 6 events at the Capitol to the Oklahoma City bombing (168 killed)! He refused to condemn the billions of dollars in damage done by Antifa and BLM as domestic terrorism but vowed to prosecute all who were involved in the January 6 breach, even though the only person with a gun was the person who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt. It should be clear to every sentient American that what happened that day was carefully planned, not by Trump-supporters, but by their opponents, who strategized that a conflagration would be the perfect stunt with which to impugn the president.
Garland's evasive non-answers were truly shocking. Why didn't the Republicans in the room get up and walk out? Why do the Republicans always cave in collective knee-jerk fashion to the authoritarian pretenses of the left? It is a question for the ages, for it has so long been true. Trump's brash courage to fight back showed us who the good guys are and who the cowards are. Sadly, those with the courage of their conservative pro-American convictions are too few.

The Republican motto: “we don’t want to be blamed”.
During his testimony, Merrick Garland said that domestic terrorism in America today is “more dangerous” than at the time of the 1996 Oklahoma City bombing, and pledged to continue the investigation in the January 6 Capitol riot wherever it takes him, including “aiders and abettors who were not present on January 6.” To elaborate on his position on domestic terrorism, Senator Hawley asked Garland whether he considered antifa assaults on federal property, like courthouses and other federal buildings in (for example) Seattle and Portland, where antifa and BLM rioted in the summer of 2020.
“An attack on a courthouse while in operation — trying to prevent judges from actually deciding cases—that plainly is domestic uh uh um um uh uh extremism uh uh um um uh uh um domestic terrorism,” Garland explained before adding the following caveat: “An attack simply on government property at night, or under any other kind of circumstances, is a clear crime and a serious one, and should be punished.”
“I don’t mean—I don’t know enough of the facts of the example you were talking about,” Garland told Hawley. Apparently, Garland slept through the summer of 2020.
“But, that’s where I draw the line,” Garland continued. “One is, uh, both are criminal, um uh uh, but one is, uh, a core attack on our democratic institutions.”
“A real party instead of a fake one. Maybe someday.”
Probably not in our lifetime — my lifetime, anyhow. They are pathetic. I love people like Gaetz, Boebert, Greene, etc. They’re young and pretty fearless; maybe there’s hope.
Yes the Republicans will cave. The only question is when.
Like I said, unimpressive Lefty comes to mind. But still extremely dangerous.
Tanden’s not getting through. Garland and Becerra will get through.
If you lose the Senate you don’t get to block nominees.
Yes
Just like you caved to Dominion, AT?
AT has limited resources and they could be sued into oblivion.
The Republicans do not operate under this threat.
The Republicans always cave..
The Republicans make the French look like Spartans at the pass.
Treasonous WIMPS swimming in their swamp, bleating swamp gasses endlessly. If their swamp gas would power vehicles we'd be energy independent forever.
Missing since 10/27/2020 (about 4 months) is a picture of the newest justice Current members page
And on the group picture page Perhaps an update is due? There's something stale about the Roberts court, like a funeral home.
Will they cave?
I was going to say, rhetorically, “is the Pope Catholic?”, but I’m not sure about this one.
If the Republicans cave, the Democrats did not overplay their hand. They played it just right.
Caving is the 1st pillar of the Republican philosophy.
The job of Controlled Opposition is to cave but make it look like they didn’t. That is the GOP’s entire reason for being there.
And we fund it.
“Merrick Garland! Neera Tanden! Xavier Becerra! The Dems are really overplaying their hand: Will the Republicans cave?”
Do they know how to do anything else?
Rush called it “losing with honor”.
Merrick Garland said yesterday that the DOJ under his leadership will enforce all gun control proposals that come down the pike. He has just committed to being an avidly anti-gun AG, as bad as if not worse than the utterly reprehensible Eric Holder.
The U.S. Constitution, which is what the United States was all about, is about to be shredded and tossed in the sewer.
And the courts will go along with it.
Guy looks like a peddle file.
There might not be much the ‘Pubbies can do. The Democrats have both the House and the Senate. And didn’t we pass the ‘nuclear option’ to prevent filibustering appointees?
