Ted Cruz has been pictured jetting off to Cancun while millions in Texas remain without power, heat or water amid a devastating winter storm.

Jetting off?
Did they expect him to drive?
From DC to Cancun is a good haul across temporary Siberia
So what?
I’m thinking there’s a political side to this meeting.
Jeez, Ted. No one blames for escaping the cold you but this is not how leaders lead. ESPECIALLY if you want to lead Texans!
He’s hardly the only one jet setting to Mexico. Many people are going there, even fear Mongers. I belong to an ‘Isla Mujerers’ fb page and read updates thru the week.
He would lose money on last-minute cancellation.
IMHO He is going to lose a lot going forward with Texans stuck in the frigid cold with no power/heat.
He would have looked a lot better if he was helping distribute blankets, food, water, etc.
Yeah. Who cares? I left Dallas in late December 1983 when there was a cold snap for 2 weeks. Never went back.
I’ll bet he’s negotiating with mexico to continue preventing illegal caravans. He can’t say that.
I was disagreeing with your comment about most people here would say it was a bad idea. Seeing a lot of people that think it is fine.
As for my relative..I predict this will not change his behavior. He will think it can’t happen again and still not load up on supplies.
> Exactly what is Cruz supposed to do about the power outage? That is not something he as a senator can help with. <
Bingo! Folks in executive departments (presidents, governors, cabinet secretaries, generals, etc.) have a duty to lead during a crisis. But legislators only get in the way.
Sure, the optics are bad here. But that’s only because today’s media gets outraged about everything (except about those things they should get outraged about).
I'm sure the trip was preplanned. He had to make a choice... hear about it from his family if he canceled their trip. Or hear about it from the msm.
Fake Mexican Beto isn’t a Senator. Doesn’t hold office.
And is doing more than Cruz. At least to the public eye.
He will have to come out and say what he has done to help his constituents.
Biden was playing video games while Texans froze to death. The press found it endearing.
Obviously this is bad optics, but my disagreement is that why are we looking to Senator’s to “fix” this? It seems to me that the utilities, the state utility board, and Governor are all far more responsible and better positioned to work the problem than a Senator.
I am not being snarky when I say this, but one of the problems we have when anything happens in our nation now is that we somehow expect a solution from DC. The only “solution” we ever seem to get from DC is that they spend more money from every American to fix a local or a state problem created by local and state officials (or private utilities in this case). He is one of 100 senators and he cannot really do anything without the consent and assistance of congress.
It’s a storm. This falls on the utility and the state government. They were all very proud of their wind turbines and “green energy”. Perhaps they should have used some of their customers money to harden their system against a very rare but rather predictable weather event instead of giving big bonuses to executives for more green energy?
Just a thought. I don’t feel strongly about this one way or another and given that it is Texas (a direct competitor to the progressive agenda) I do not expect fair media coverage about it either.
I don’t contest your point about “bad optics”. Perhaps my indifference or disgust is more with how our nation has been conditioned to expect a solution to every problem from the beltway. There are many people far more responsible for this between those without power and a US Senator in my humble opinion.
“ Regardless of this drama, TX turned to greenie silliness on his watch.’
You veered off track with the “on his watch” part.
US Senators have absolutely zero say on decisions regarding the TX power grid which, by the way, isn’t hooked up to the national grid.
If he plans to run for president, this will be an obstacle.
Understand. Yea, and your right regarding your relative. I remember last fall as another round of lockdowns were looming. Went to Sam’s to buy some usual stuff, but people were out in force buying toilet paper and paper towels like there was no tomorrow. They had MONTHS to build up a little stockpile and instead just went back to their just-in-time old ways of living. Incredible.
What about the people in Texas who had plans of had plans for the last year? This is a punk move to tell his Texans FU!
GOD, FAMILY, COUNTRY. THE THREE GREAT LOYALTIES, IN ORDER!
But it seems so many ARE CONFUSED about that PROPER order.
GOVERNMENT has moved ahead of FAMILY, and EVEN GOD.
“This so Stupid, what is Cruz suppose to do, hand out jackets or hand warmers.”
Perhaps some meaningless stunt. But if not, then sit home, run the generator and read some books. What you DO NOT want to do is end up stepping in it like he just did.
Anyway, there are plenty good Republicans in Texas, hopefully one steps up and finishes him off politically before he succeeds in sending the entire state into the hands of Democrats.
