Bob Dole, the former longtime Kansas senator and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, said Thursday that he has stage 4 lung cancer.

“Recently, I was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. My first treatment will begin on Monday,” Dole, 97, said in a statement.

Prayers for him and his family. His wife is descended from the Locke Family of Rowan County, NC, that included a General, Colonel, Captain, and paymaster for the Continental Army and the first Senator and Federal Judge from NC.

I rememebr when my grandfather was 88, pushing 89 and he got hospitalized with an infection of some kind, my dad asked if he wanted treatment, and the look he gave my dad was like “dont you dare” as he shook his head no.

Got his signature on a piece of paper along with Pat Buchanan's and Dan Quayle's at different events back in 1996 for my late father. Had to yell at Bob Dole through the crowd, "For my dad! For my dad!" as loud as I could. He heard me and pushed through the Secret Service to take my piece of paper. I wish I had an opportunity to thank him for that. Also, thankful to the Secret Service for not tackling me.

I still have all three framed in a nice frame with notes mentioning when and where they were obtained. Very grateful to Bob Dole for what he did in Murfreesboro, TN on that day. If anyone knows him and reads this, please tell him thanks for some poor poster on FR who still has his signature to my father.
