MONTGOMERY, Ala. — U.S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby of Alabama has indicated to some confidantes that he doesn't intend to run for reelection next year.
Some Republicans are urging the chamber's fourth most senior member to reconsider.
Others are preparing to run for his seat.

Strom Thurmond mad his last run at 94.
Well, it makes it hard for us to hold on to a majority.
We willingly toss seniority out the window, and yes it does
matter, because incumbents are re-elected most often. It’s
something like 80-90%.
Then we have a new guy going up against their new guy.
We lose seats we shouldn’t be losing.
LOL
Okay, he’s the only one in the last two decades. My bad. /s
You did read my post right?
You are capable of understanding “the last three cycles” right?
Wow...
Maybe you’re right. You probably are. However, I haven’t missed an election since I was 18 and unless something drastic happens, I won’t be voting ever again. If you think I’m alone, you are about to be very surprised.
We just had a national presidential election stolen by china and the democrats, across nine states, with tons of evidence left behind.
They certainly could steal one alabama senatorial election, and leave evidence behind, just like they did here.
So what. You support them staying in congress until they are taken out feet first. You are a huge reason we have a geriatric facility for the congress. It’s disgraceful that you are boo hooing these ancient senators for finally retiring. And yes the old crones have been retiring the last three cycles. Glory be for that. Yes your hero McCain was a sample of your desires for all senators to stay until last breath. Yuk!
You do realize you are playing the part of a nincompoop
here right?
So desperate were you, that you had to mention McCain as if
I would support that man to be dog catcher.
We need bodies in Congress. We need to have the majority.
Every time an incumbent steps down, we go from a 80-90%
chance of holding a seat, to a 50/50 at best.
I’m 70 years old. I’m not in favor of being mean to old
people. If you think it’s bad for me to want us to remain
in the majority, think where we are headed with seniors
right now, rationing medicine for the elderly.
In Great Britain, they put old people on DNR without their
consent. This means that if they stop breathing, or have
some other think happen that can be remedied without too
much trouble, they don’t do it. They let the person die.
That is coming here. I don’t want it to. If our party is
in the majority, it won’t come as quickly, or perhaps not
at all.
You can play this silly game of trying to shame me all you
like, but if you give a darn about this nation, you’ll get
with the program and support people staying on.
The year Trump was sworn into office, a whole slew of people
left the House. If I remember correctly, one or more left
the Senate also.
What happened in 2018? We lost the majority. How did that
work out for us?
Now, do you want to slander me by saying I’m heartless, or
do you want to pick up your intelligence off the floor, and
realize how badly this nation is being damaged by the Left
getting breaks when it comes to people stepping down in
large numbers?
Read this:
In 2017, 55 Republicans decided not to run again.
One of them was Paul Ryan. Now there’s an elderly person
huh.
What’s the point? It’s NOT going to be an election. He knows that! He’s going to cash out, collect his bribes and live off his “warchest”. You’ll see many more republicans doing the same very soon. ESPECIALLY, after they stab Trump and us in the back this next week.
There will be no more “elections”!
she got the trailer in the divorce, didn’t she?
The stolen election stuff the GOP needs to up their ballot harvesting game end of story the democrats where getting anything counted that was somewhat coherent stop playing by the queens rules and fight back the Dems fight dirty nothing is stopping the GOP from doing it too... the only way the GOP blows this seat is if Roy Moore gives it a go and he brags about being a pedophile again
In his case, he’d be 88 running for re-election. So this makes sense.
We may have kept control of the House in 2018 but for the massive number of open seats. That caused resources to be stretched thin in an election cycle already a challenge since it was a midterm. And a lot of crazy stuff would have not have occurred...not necessarily a lot of good stuff, but the insanity of Schiff, Nadler, etc. controlling those committees would not have occurred.
In 2017, 55 Republicans and 17 Democrats decided not to run
again.
Three times more Republicans announced, than Democrats.
We had 55 incumbents leave. They would have had an over 80%
chance of holding onto their seats.
Instead we had 55 open seats with a 50% chance of hanging on.

LOL!!
Getting sent back to the minors!!!
Having a position in either the House or the Senate makes them members of the most powerful, privileged clubs on the planet, with perhaps the exception of the upper levels of the CCP
Isn't worth the aggravation?
Oh... you mean they might have to actually run for office.
They might actually be primaried and beaten at the ballot box.
Why not resign in office and have replacement appointed?
Don’t wake up J.B. Sessions.
