MONTGOMERY, Ala. — U.S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby of Alabama has indicated to some confidantes that he doesn't intend to run for reelection next year.
Some Republicans are urging the chamber's fourth most senior member to reconsider.
Others are preparing to run for his seat.

A wise decision on Shelby’s part. But why wait, retire now.
So a good vote from the floor isn’t enough.
Got it.
Is Roy Moore still around? If so maybe he can hook up
his horse trailer and tour the state again.
[So a good vote from the floor isn’t enough.
Got it.]
I wish you the best of luck finding actual voters for your red wave. Maybe you won’t need them. Hope you don’t, because it’s gonna be a bit of a rough go.
[I hardly ever hear of a Democrat jumping ship, and a lot of
these folks aren’t in the same age range as Shelby.]
Many Democrats are simply unemployable in the private sector except in specially-created sinecures. Unless you’re Barack Obama, filling one of these sinecures means constant ass-kissing. That’s not necessarily appealing to many Democrats, however lucrative it might be.
“I have to think Gov Ivey would be the favorite here”
The republican who raised gas taxes days after the election and keeps extending the mask rule? I don’t think so.
He didn’t object to the electoral college votes, can’t he just leave now?
WWG1WGA!
“No more women elected officials, please. They’ve been the bane of our existence.
Flame on. I won’t apologize.”
Your comment reminded me of this Sean Connery interview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo0d1zTAFKA
well you have a good point...
.How many states do we have to have to secure an election national even if they cheat in Illinois, Pa etc.
Nothing wrong with what Connery said. Equal treatment, right?
The house is a lock simply from redistricting the battle is in the senate
Yes. I totally agree. I always find that interview amusing because of his candor.
In Alabama? You worry about democrat vote fraud seriously? This isn’t Georgia where Atlanta is a sesspool
He’s freaking 87. You want him in there til his last breath. How selfish of you seriously.
The three retiring all get social security retirement checks. That is NOT middle age.
Diane Finestein says she is running again in 2024 she is NOW 87 she will be 91 and is running for a 6 year term GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK!!!
Could care less what democrats do. Republicans should all agree to retire at 70 at the very least. It’s gross that the senate is especially a geriatric facility.
I don’t think Ivey will fair well after her lockdown orders and mask mandates. This is a dark red states.
Good to hear Shelby is retiring. We need a Mo Brooks clone to run for his seat. Ivey ain’t it. Mo won’t run and I don’t want him to. He’s my representative.
Get me in Congress, and I’m not stepping down, period.
Our guys don’t go to win.
