Chicago Teachers Union Poised to Strike After Mayor Lightfoot Orders Return to School

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is poised to strike following an order by Mayor Lori Lightfoot that teachers return to in-person learning in their classrooms.

CTU and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) failed to meet over the weekend to reach an agreement on how to get students back into in-classroom learning despite the coronavirus crisis. A strike would mean students will also not receive remote instruction.

This would be a great opportunity for Lightfoot to break the union. Unfortunately, being a far left Democrat, that’s not what she’ll do.

Teachers' unions condemn Chicago residents to a life of servitude, unable to do much but beg Democrat politicians for handouts.

Across the state, nearly 37 percent of students in grades 3 through 8 scored proficient or higher in reading. In Chicago, that figure was nearly 10 percentage points lower: 27.4 percent. Last year, that figure was 28.5 percent. And in math, 22.4 percent of Chicago students scored proficient or better, compared with 31.5 percent of students statewide. Last year, 23.7 percent of Chicago students met the state’s standards.

If the "government" says it's dangerous enough to wear a mask and social distance, it's too dangerous to meet in public, especially for taxpayer funded babysitting.

Also, it's Chicago and with the GOVERNMENT PROMOTING RIOTS, the government can't be trusted to protect anyone, especially "for the children."

I am a big fan of both the CTU and Lightfoot. Perhaps not a fan, what is it called when you get pleasure from watching a train wreck on a loop.

Think they both illustrate what is wrong with American politics at the local level in 2021. Lightfoot is the only sucker to want the job of leading chicago, and the CTU are the only suckers who walk into chicago schools at their own will.
