Yep you can't run get a couple gallons of petro and be on the road again..
Major power outages will be a factor. I assume they could have back
up generators to provide charging but not sure.

I guess the world may be in for the next change.. How about nuclear?

You can get the equivalent.

With current technology the only way you are going to solve the range issue is with hydrogen fuel cells. That requires an infrastructure that isn’t there yet. I think a lot of this is just wishful thinking from the eco-warrior crowd. As for me I’m gonna keep buying rusty old pickups with solid mechanicals. Less expensive to run and maintain. I don’t drive very far so gas cost is a minimal concern.

“I want one that will go 400 miles on a charge and recharge in 15 minutes while I take a pee and buy a soft drink.”

Electric cars are already going 450-500 miles and new batteries coming out fully charge in 5 minutes or less.

I for one will be glad no more oil changes, air filter, trans filter etc etc.

All of them are the same, about a 50 mile range in winter and uphill.

Did you want a neighborhood grid that handle every household charging an electric car as well?

All the pessimism! I bought an electric car and I quite enjoy owning it. I didn’t install a charger in my house and I can drive all over town without paying a cent for electricity. I know where the free electricity is found and I haven’t paid a cent for charging my car since Thanksgiving. And then it was because I took a trip up the coast from Arcata CA to Astoria OR during Thanksgiving week. I paid about half for electricity than I would have for gasoline. It helps to not be in a hurry because it can take several hours each day to charge. But right now I go to the super Walmart at 10 pm and charge for 45 minutes every other day. And I don’t pay for the electricity. Sorry to everyone else who pays the taxes that allow me to leech.

No thank you. They are Fire hazards, very expensive to maintain and bad for the environment.

“What about the materials necessary to make the batteries?”

I guess they are going to have to be abundant and cheap if the want to make a car that I would buy
