All the pessimism! I bought an electric car and I quite enjoy owning it. I didn’t install a charger in my house and I can drive all over town without paying a cent for electricity. I know where the free electricity is found and I haven’t paid a cent for charging my car since Thanksgiving. And then it was because I took a trip up the coast from Arcata CA to Astoria OR during Thanksgiving week. I paid about half for electricity than I would have for gasoline. It helps to not be in a hurry because it can take several hours each day to charge. But right now I go to the super Walmart at 10 pm and charge for 45 minutes every other day. And I don’t pay for the electricity. Sorry to everyone else who pays the taxes that allow me to leech.
“for 45 minutes every other day”
First off, sitting in a wal-mart
parking lot for 45 minutes after
10:00 pm in most larger city
locations would be a risky
endeavor.
Secondly, I’d like to see you
try this in northern Minnesota,
in January, when it’s -22 deg F.
I guess you could carry a small
electric heater in your EV so
you don’t freeze to death while
waiting to charge up.
