The era of electric cars isn't coming; it's already here. Though they still make up a small portion of the new car market, EVs are where the action is when it comes to the exciting realms of vehicular development. No longer are they battery-powered compliance cars or subcompact shuttles for the crunchy granola set; today's electric vehicles come in a broad range of sizes, shapes and prices.
Still, while Tesla may have carved out a solid niche as purveyor of cutting-edge automobiles, Porsche has redefined sport sedans and Audi and Jaguar have whipped up stylish crossovers that feel imported from the future, the next few years will be the ones that truly open up the electric vehicle market. So to keep tabs on all the cool new EVs coming down the pike, we've put together this roundup of the ones we know about that have us most excited. You won't find plug-in hybrids or hydrogen-powered fuel cell cars or anything like that here; we're just talking about pure electric vehicles, the kind that only get power from a plug and wouldn't know what to do with liquid fuel if they had it dumped on their hoods.

I cannot get excited about a souped up golf cart.
I want one that will go 400 miles in the Winter with the radio and heater on in a single charge and recharge in 15 minutes while I take a pee and buy a soft drink.
I assume Texans and Arizonans could make a similar edit for Summer and Air Conditioning...

I think most of the electric cars have a gasoline engine backup, you know, in case you want to go somewhere.
I wonder how many people just use their gasoline engine after the batteries fail and keep the $4000. And I wonder if they take out and discard the big ole heavy nonfunctioning batteries that would cost $4000 to replace. And there’s probably a $500 disposal fee too.
I think the Sierra Club finally admitted that the "other end" is part of the overall equation.
I’m all for -e driven vehicles. Instant torque and as much horsepower as you could ever want if you can dump enough MW into it?
My concern comes from WHERE the power is coming from. Batteries, and even super-caps, are just dumb. For all the power distribution reasons others have already pointed out.
Gimme on-board multi-mega-watt power generation and then we’d be talking. LENR or something similar would foot the bill for that.
Until then, EV’s are just greenie/government pet projects that will hurt the markets and our freedoms more than they will “save the planet”.
Tons of fun!
And the environmental and human cost of just getting the raw materials to bulid the cars is huge. It’s not like they are made of recycled plastic.
