Friday, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) sounded off on the House sending over the article of impeachment citing President Donald Trump with inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month.
Blumenthal said on “CNN Newsroom” that the evidence of Trump inciting the riot is “pretty open and shut” given his speech and tweets leading up to and following the chaos that ultimately left five dead and others injured. With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) set to send over the article of impeachment on Monday, Blumenthal said the trial “can happen in days, not weeks.”

The specific question to ask is...under what authority does the Senate have to hold a trial of a private citizen and to either convict or acquit that private citizen?
At the time of trial, he is a private citizen.
They have zero authority to hold a trial of a private citizen.
He’s a private citizen and cannot be removed from office. The Constitution is very clear on Impeachment:
The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.
Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

The disqualification clause is directly tied to removal. Any pubie who votes for this will be primaried.

Why impeach someone who’s no longer in office? This one really boggles the mind....
Since the Democrats would be in control, they can rule out any evidence that Trump might try to enter as to the break-in being pre-planned by radicals (who were only posing as pro-Trump types) or that hte break-in happened before anyone who listened to his speech could have reached the Capitol.

How does Congress impeach a private citizen of the United States? What office do the leftists in both parties think Donald Trump can be removed from?
Legal or not....the public sees it as stupid and waste of their money.
