Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said he witnessed the moment a police officer shot a woman inside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and insisted the officer had no other choice.
A pro-Trump mob of rioters rammed their way into the Capitol Wednesday as Congress held a joint session to certify the election results, sending lawmakers into hiding.
Video shows a group attempting to force itself into the House chamber, where lawmakers were present. As protesters were breaking glass on the doors that kept them out to force their way through, a law enforcement officer fired a shot. One woman, Ashli Babbitt, was struck by a bullet and later died.
"When they broke the glass in the back, the [police] lieutenant that was there, him and I already had multiple conversations prior to this, and he didn't have a choice at that time," Mullin told ABC News' George Stephanapoulos on "Good Morning America" Thursday.
"The mob was going to come through the door, there was a lot of members and staff that were in danger at the time. And when he [drew] his weapon, that's a decision that's very hard for anyone to make, and, once you draw your weapon like that, you have to defend yourself with deadly force."
Mullin said police "showed a lot of restraint" and "did the best they could."

Murder is the correct word.
Will have to figure a way to honor her memory.
We don’t have choices either
Switch her colour to black in a leftist riot and you will not see a single Republican stand up to defend the officer and you will see incredible negative analysis of that video and the shooting. That’s just a fact.
Local law enforcement: Remember this the next time some politician sends you out to do their unconstitutional dirty work. Because you will never be provided protection like this by them. You are expendable.
This is pure horse shit because if you've watched the video of her shooting, she is the only one at the door. No one else is pushing on the door, in fact, nobody around her is even paying attention to her at the door. The majority of people all have their backs turned from her. It isn't until the shot rang out that people started looking around to see where it had come from.
Eff you and your precious, fragile congressmates.
And that guy, waiting with the gun SPECIFICALLY chose to shoot the GIRL.
There was also the guy with the blue backpack... and the cameraman...
He specifically chose to off the GIRL.
I saw the video. A case could be made. It is obious she was the one climbing up and through the door. If you are going to illegally try to enter the capital violently (through a bvroken window), you just may get shot.
Sadly, one of the risks of being in a mob is that it skews your thinking, and you do things you would normally never do because you get caught up in the moment and are “empowered” by being surrounded by numbers of like minded people.
That is why, though her death is tragic, the shooter just may be able to make the case that the shooting was justified - from the perspective of a reasonable person in his shoes.
Sad but true. Fact is, if you are going to do what they did, you either take the place over and win, or back off. This is actually one of the reasons my wife and I didn’t go.
True that. (Snicker, snicker)
So " Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla." supports a 'stand your ground' law in Oklahoma against an unarmed female.
Interesting !
And ANOTHER thing...
If WE have intruders in our homes and shoot them without being cornered in the basement with nowhere else to retreat to, WE go to prison, right?
This clown was in the FIRST doorway of the hall, which had OTHER hallways adjoining.
Just ANOTHER example of how we are no longer a nation of laws.
Brave when the other person is unarmed. Not right that happened. This country is more trouble than many realize.
That’s bullshit. She was obviously unarmed and there was a wooden and glass structure between the officer and the woman. Beyond that, there is a tactical element from Capitol Police literally right behind her on the staircase when she’s shot. The first officer behind her actually aims his AR in the direction of the shot. Whatever she was doing, it wasn’t enough to attract the attention of armed officers much closer to her physically.
I hope people....especially his constituents....are tweeting this toad about what a liar he is. And, including Faux News in the admonishment, as well.
If this doesn’t wake people up and show them just how little the “little people” mean to our reps, then I don’t know what will. In addition to these atrocious comments by this moronic asshat, how many GOP reps have spoken out against the shooting? None? Really?!
Democrats AND Republicans in congress spent almost an entire year lecturing police about the need for non-lethal ways to apprehend criminals, but when an unarmed, female veteran with no criminal history is shot in their hallowed halls we get silence or outrageous comments like this. Unbelievable.
I’ve said it before, and I mean it — I’m done with ‘em.
Denial is especially strong with Congressional Leaders.
Hey Rep. Markwayne Mullin, RINO-Okla:
Bring the guy forward. Let’s all laud him as a hero.
ML/NJ
I thought it was an “accidental discharge.” Now this goofball is saying it was INTENTIONAL???
