Donald Trump's extraordinary crusade to overturn the presidential election will come to a head on Wednesday as Congress meets to certify Joe Biden's Electoral College victory at a joint session led by Vice President Mike Pence.
The typically routine proceeding will be anything but, as a group of 13 rogue Republican senators led by Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley plan to file objections when the alphabetical vote roll-call reaches the battleground state of Arizona.
The longshot effort is all but certain to fail, defeated by bipartisan majorities in Congress prepared to accept Biden's 306 to 232 electoral victory over Trump.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to make a last-ditch effort to dissuade members of his party from following through with their doomed plot when he delivers a speech early in the day.
Sources familiar with McConnell's plans told Axios his speech will center around his fear that the objections will tear his party apart by forcing Republicans to choose between upholding democracy and alienating a hugely influential GOP figure in Trump.
Meanwhile Trump has placed his hopes on Pence, furiously claiming that the vice president could single-handedly overturn the election results during Wednesday's proceedings - and denying a report that Pence had told him that wasn't possible.

He's a uniparty hack. They all view Trump as an aberration, like Reagan. And like Reagan they think that once he's gone they can quietly reverse all of his accomplishments and the people will go back into their coma and let them line their pockets while they destroy our constitution. Hey, it worked once!
There is a difference though. Reagan fell into his illness after he left office and more or less disappeared from the public eye. He was not able to defend his record or accomplishments as Bush and his cronies tore them down. And even if he were, Reagan was disinclined to speak ill of other Republicans so he'd have been very reluctant to do so publicly. Trump is not going away and as his amazing accomplishments are reversed he will not be silent. Unless they drag him off in chains that is, which I'm sure will be the next part of their plan. That's when all hell will really break loose.
“McConnell and his circle of traitors should be kicked out of the GOP. They can form a new party as they desire.”
This is the exact position stated by Rush many weeks ago. His position is, that the Party Base is The Trump Party and that the RINO’s need to be targeted for elimination.
Well, Eric Trump tossed that grenade into the ring yesterday. The RINO’s think that if they stick together they are untouchable incumbents.
We shall see how this plays out.
I am continually surprised at the number of people on this site who do not see that Trump is not “beloved” by the GOP in government.
Think of it this way: The folks in Congress and the government are standing next to the “swamp” with a 10 inch hose starting to fill it back up; waving their middle finger at Trump as he is flown away.
The “return to ‘normal’” is so close they can taste it.
Watch—after the Biden administration takes over the people who were “Trump Supporters” in DC will turn on him as if he were a leper.
Thinking that anyone in that morass is going to lift a finger to help Trump is delusional.
It doesn’t matter what you want or think you want. The only thing that counts to these people is lining their own pockets. You and I do not matter. We never have.
How is that not obvious?
McConnell put the Republican establishment first and it cost Republicans the White House and Senate. He’s a corrupt and failed leader. Republicans can’t recover without new leadership, leadership that won’t accept and/or facilitate voter fraud and won’t cave on important issues like illegal immigration, amnesty, excessive spending and to China.
“Mitch controls the levers of power.”
And since he and his posse are the ones with the power to confirm Trump’s (alleged) picks, Mitch has placed his wife in PDJT’s Cabinet. He has chosen the feckless Federal judges who are consistently ruling against Trump. Mitch is the President.
Dear Mitch:
If you burn our President, you won’t HAVE a party left; because we will burn it to the ground and start a new America First Party.
Practice your Mandarin... you’ll need it.
BTTT
“Practice your Mandarin... you’ll need it.”
I have a feeling he’s fluent already, considering his in-laws’ big shipping business in China.
It's not HIS party, that's his first mistake.
Trump will be out for revenge. He will tap into the anger
GOP should greatly fear that in the next election in the States that actually work to fight voter fraud.
GA might be lost
I think that is because TRUMP is a valid proxy for the USA, IMO.
He is the only one at the top (With a few Senators, Congressmen, and Judges) who seems to understand what is at stake here isn’t just four more years for him.
It is the future of our Republic. If we don’t have elections...and people know it...we don’t have a Republic.
Well, we would, but it would be a Banana Republic.
Yes, he’s first on my list, Mitch is Obama’s bitch and China scratches his itch for wealth and power.
He is condemning himself as a Qusiling in the eyes of History. What a fool.
Mitch and his china doll are raking in millions. Micth welcomes being the minority leader. It takes no effort to repeatedly say, “We didn’t have enough votes this time but we live to fight another day.”
What on earth does he eat? Because I swear it has turned his blood yellow.
There is no Republican party PDJT just used them to help us gain leverage
We are his Patriots. He is our Leader... That is why the Republicans and GOPe are shiiting bricks....
70m of us control the Republican party and we shall do to them what we did to Fox News.... Starve it to death, as it has starved us of Our Country.
Redpects
Insurrection act. That is all.
Sorry for the all red large caps. This just made me angry beyond words.
Want your nation back, you now have to get dirty and take it.
I do believe, unfortunately, that you are correct.
