There are still hotel/motel rooms available in the Washington area for the nights of January 5th and 6th. I had no reservation before this morning and just made one for Vienna, Virginia. That Courtyard by Marriott is only a four-minute walk to the Dunn Loring Fairfax Metro station for the Orange Line subway trains.
The latest weather forecast has the high for January 6th at 45F and the low will be 31. It is expected to be "mostly sunny".
When more of the schedule of events is established we Freepers may chose a place to meet. After the main festivities perhaps we can get together by the north side of the Air and Space Museum which is only three and a half short blocks from the Capitol Reflecting Pool.
Hi.
Good post.
IIRC, DC DOES NOT have CCW reciprocity unlike 34 other states.
I would STILL go armed.

Wish I could be there,
Go with God, FRiends!
Thank you for the parking and Metro advice. My jalopy will stay at the hotel while I Metro in. I’ll be just one stop away from the southern terminus of the Orange Line so hopefully the trains will not be full. I would hate to go to Plan B and Uber in or go to Plan C and skateboard in.
As much as I agree with your sentiments the reality on the ground is that you will be busted.
We have no idea the technology that exists in DC to detect that stuff. The rally is in Official Washington meaning Federal.
There are dozens of police agencies. POTUS is expected to be there which raises security even more.
In DC, a guy was once jailed for an expended shotgun shell in his car.
Think about ways to harden your flagpole.
I believe stun guns and pepper spray are legal.
I and some friends will be heading in from Virginia. Will probably take the Vienna metro (Orange Line) in.
I understand the need to teach children to do their civic duty, etc., but this is not a friendly Trump rally; this is a protest. I hope no one brings a child.
Willard Hotel!.....our ‘go to’ place.....just a short block to White House
Also, if open, there are several.... Corner Bakery......( that’s the name) in downtown DC.....one across street from The Willard
Excellent fresh food and coffee for breakfast and lunch!....very reasonable
Also, some hotels have their own cafes and. restaurants, , although pricier
You are right about the high-tech gun detection systems. I’m going in with only a pocket knife with less than a three-inch blade. I like the idea of an assembly of armed patriots showing up on Lexington Green - or Peachtree Street in Atlanta and making a stand but this ain’t that time.
Yes, the Willard is a possibility. But I was thinking the center of gravity would be closer to the Capitol than to the WH. We’ll see what info comes out today and tomorrow.
Also the trains run right into Union station. A short walk to the Capital. Many places outside of DC to stay that are close to a metro.
I am hoping for a crowd of 10 Million. I think the bars are deemed essential in DC and some are only a few blocks from the capital.
“Violent groups like Proud Boys”. Statements like this are so infuriating. The same politicians/ media who say this had no problem with the widespread burning and looting that went on last summer.
Understood.
There is liability, but I or the First lady no longer can defend ourselves unless armed. Go to jail or die. We live in a binary universe.
Been to many rallies in DC, and was always armed. Even when I could kick ass.

We are sending out 3 buses from Flagler County in FL. The calls are coming in from all over Fl to see if we have the room.
The excitement is incredible - but we’ll be on our way the 5th, coming home on the 7th.
Patriots answering the call!
For Floridians.....
....If you can get to Sanford, Florida ( outskirts of Orlando) a train leaves for DC every day.....around 4PM
It gets you to Lorton, Virginia ( about 20 miles from downtown DC) by 8 AM the next morning.....
This is the AutoTrain.....
....but you can ride it with or without taking your car!
You can get a comfy recliner seat in the lounge.....(Reasonable price)
.....or a sleeper room, with or without a toilet......more expensive
The train has a Cafe with hamburgers, sandwiches, etc
It also has a dining room with full dinners
Your return trip is the same, flipped!
.....
Are you in FL.....or, TX?
Great news about the buses!
Exactly. I normally carry a Benchmade knife. Instead I carry one I can afford to lose.
My flagpole breaks down so It can fit in my daypack. It’s also in easily swingable lengths.
That’s amazing, about the FL/DC DAILY train!
I had no idea.
I wonder if there are other routes, around the country.
Which line is this?
TIA :-)
Hi lovely lady.
Good post.
Hope you and the King are doing well.
Happy New Year.
