There are still hotel/motel rooms available in the Washington area for the nights of January 5th and 6th. I had no reservation before this morning and just made one for Vienna, Virginia. That Courtyard by Marriott is only a four-minute walk to the Dunn Loring Fairfax Metro station for the Orange Line subway trains.
The latest weather forecast has the high for January 6th at 45F and the low will be 31. It is expected to be "mostly sunny".
When more of the schedule of events is established we Freepers may chose a place to meet. After the main festivities perhaps we can get together by the north side of the Air and Space Museum which is only three and a half short blocks from the Capitol Reflecting Pool.
If you cannot make it...FLOOD the phone lines with calls to your rep/senator. Flood the inboxes on the 6th. Everyone can do their part.
I understand the mayor has closed the restaurants?
I plan on filling my waist pack with snack food. Going backpacker style will not be much of a hardship. Bring your water bottles, canteen, or flask.
Above all, PRAY!
Thank you S&SF. Put in a good word for me too.
Bear in mind that the Rats running the DC government there are going to make it as difficult as possible for us. Plan on a big breakfast that morning as you might not have any access to food and drink unless you bring it. As for drink, the less the better, as there will likely be very little if any facilities. In fact, my wife is not coming for that very reason. It's much tougher for a woman to relieve herself in public. Men can, well, improvise.
As for hotels, I'm not risking it. I'm hearing that some hotels are already cancelling bookings. Not sure how true that is but expect a hassle as the DC establishment don't want us there and will do all in their power to make the city as inhospitable to us as possible.
So I plan to leave NYC around 3AM and drive to northern Virginia, in which I will take the METRO in on the Silver Line. Will they go so far as shutting down the METRO that day? I hope not as that is how I plan to get to the Capitol itself. I thinking anybody driving to drive in there the day of will have major hassles unless they plan to be there the day before and have a confirmed hotel booking.
I don't expect to get back home until well after midnight after 10 hours of driving (5 hours each way) and 10 hours of standing up in a crowded Mall. But I'm doing this for our President and I look forward to him speaking to us. It better not be about "Thanks for coming, let's go get 'em in 2024" or I will be pissed!
Haven’t seen anything about her ordering restaurants closed (1 or 2 right around the Mall area have taken it upon themselves) but because of COVID she has banned indoor dining from 12/23 to 1/15.
Museums are closed as well.
And BLM is asking Marriott and Holiday Inn in Capitol Hill and Alexandria to close for the upcoming protest. ‘Silence is violence’ they say.
Poor babies.
I’ll try to find it but it said she’s closed the restaurants. Maybe just indoor.
If I owned a place I’d have it wide open.
As for “facilities” the park service is not under the mayor’s thumb. They may not like us but they usually roll with the events. I expect some facilities to be available even if they are just semi-nasty portapotties. I was there for the 4th of July fireworks and SOME of the police and DC operatives do like us.
How many are going to show you think?
Go ye!
For those that know the area better than I...I’m flying in on Monday and flying out on Thursday. So this will also be a mini-vacation for me on the non-protest days.
I’ve got a reservation in both Vienna and Dumfries VA. Since I’ll have a rental car, being within walking distance of the Metro isn’t an issue for me. I will be taking the Metro.
But which place is safer and has better food? LOL I’m really wanting some good (but inexpensive) seafood while there. Having to drive for it is ok; I plan on visiting Mount Vernon while there.
If we get 400,000 there the media will say it was 80,000. But some in DC will hear us, see us, and feel our attitude. I feel certain that we’ll have over a quarter of a million.
Aye. This is the the hill we either win or die on. If China Joe actually gets into the WH, there will be no more (legitimate) elections, and we'll no longer have a Constitutional Republic.
I will be there. I am going to put FR somewhere on my clothing.
I use to like Old Town Alexandria for the restaurant scene. But it has been a long time since I was there so my info is obsolete.
I use to go to Winston’s in Georgetown just a couple of years after Susan Ford was a regular there. Susan married a Secret Service agent from her father’s security detail. Now Winston’s is no longer Winston’s but even Google Earth labels the Exorcist House and Exorcist Steps. The Tombs in Georgetown which also appears in that film was “temporarily closed” for the scamdemic even while other nearby restaurants were still open. John F. Kennedy officially proposed to Jackie at Martin’s Tavern at the corner of Wisconsin and N Street and it was still open in July while the Tomb’s was closed.
BTTT!
FR on your clothing?! That’s a good idea. You’ll recognize me, I’ll be the tall eccentric awkward guy.
