An off-duty EMT who performed CPR on a United Airline passenger who later died of COVID-19 has revealed that he is now showing symptoms of the deadly virus — and feels like he “got hit by a train,” according to a report.
Tony Aldapa was among the passengers who tried to revive Isaias Hernandez, 69, who collapsed on an Orlando-to-Los Angeles flight Monday, even after the man’s wife admitted he had coronavirus symptoms.

The EMT will be fine.
Umm... of all of the stories I’ve heard relating to COVID, this one is a) the least surprising and b) the least frustrating.
Someone performs CPR, esp. if they’re still doing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, OF COURSE they’re going to contract something if the other person is contagious. This person did the right thing trying to save a life. If they’re healthy, the should weather COVID just fine.
The media is treating this like it’s the bubonic plague. COVID is not a death sentence.
The infuriating part of this story is that the deceased man apparently thought he had COVID-19 before flying.
He should not have been flying, IMO.
If he’s tuned in to covid early treatment therapy, he’ll be taking ivermectin
Yes, that is definitely the point of the story. The guy endangers everyone else on the plane and now this off duty EMT gets it!
The infuriating part of this story is that the deceased man apparently thought he had COVID-19 before flying.

That is it in a nutshell.
As adamant I am as far as these Draconian measures go, in a respect SOMEONE has to take charge so long as the individuals decide not to.
I am anti mask and anti lockdown etc BUT at least if I am ill or show ANY symptoms I will voluntarily shut down and go for ‘help’ if necessary.
Like someone (sarcastically) had said ‘this is the first one you almost have to take a test for to see if you have it and has a very high survival rate’.
I resent being told how to handle myself when I have enough common sense to do it.
ALSO:...’THEY’ have it wrong...they supposedly release prisoners on the premise they are susceptible to getting the ‘BeerFlu’ when - in reality - where better to ‘practice’ the draconian measures such as ‘social distancing, masking etc’ than when you have a CAPTIVE audience?
Instead they virtually (attempt to) ‘sentence’ us to house arrest and allow convicted criminals to go free.
Back when this madness first started I saw where a city had taken harsh members on its populace but did throw in a disclaimer that the HOMELESS were exempt from the rules.
And they wonder why ‘we’ don’t pay attention to these fools.
FINE are you joking? He only has a 99% chance of survival. He is as good as dead now. More people died this year than any other year (don’t you read) and some of them actually died from covid.
Did he do breathing without a barrier? I was a life guard and guard instructor for ten years — many of my students went on to become EMTs and other first responders. Anytime rescue breathing is involved — a barrier is usually used, and now data has proven that compressions can be done without rescue breathing.
Still, like most have said — EMT’s gonna be fine unless he’s in bad shape (doubtful) to begin with.
Bingo!

Exactly. I’m sure he was in the country legally too.
Why is that infuriating? If I’m going about my day, feeling okay, should I quarantine or isolate myself? If I find out the day after that I was exposed to someone with COVID, should I find every person with whom I’ve had contact and warn them?
The majority of human beings exposed to COVID never show symptoms. Unless you’re legitimately running a fever or feel ill, I don’t see a reason why anyone should isolate or otherwise not take part in day-to-day activities.
“....even after the man’s wife admitted he had coronavirus symptoms....”
The article seemed to indicate that the man who died knew he had COVID symptoms.
Why did United let him board? According to the stories published, the man had visible symptoms.
This is the same airline that threw a family off of a flight because their 2-year old wouldn’t keep her mask on. No logic whatsoever.
What do you base that on? Statistics? Wishful thinking?
To me, it sounds like the EMT got the full viral load and his body is in full defense mode. For some people, it is ‘just the flu, bro’ - but not for all.
First rule f first responders is don’t become a victim yourself.
Was he wearing a mask? Did they screen him before he boarded the plane?
Well, I WAS exposed to someone who started showing symptoms the same day I did. I tested positive and PROMPTLY reached out to EVERYBODY I had anything more than limited, incidental contact so they could decide how to proceed.
Yes, my symptoms are extremely mild (thankfully, considering my 66 years), but I will be devastated if I infected a fellow church-goer who didn’t get off as lucky as me.
