New York Times op-ed columnist David Brooks ignited a wave of backlash after insulting rural Americans who have no contact with the “expert class.”

“Look at how much more Republicans are affected by conspiracy theories than the Democrats, so it can’t just be the internet, there must be some demand,” Brooks said, pointing out the “two core problems.”
“A lot of people in the expert class live in blue cities who are thriving,” he claimed. “And a lot of people left behind in the rural parts of America, they feel threatened economically, culturally, socially and they have no contact with the expert class.”
He went on to contend that “those of us in the expert class – journalism and academia – have to do a better job of reaching out in post-Trump, establishing relationships and showing some respect,” he said.
Brooks added that there also has to be economic policies “so people don’t feel threatened,” suggesting that the way to “cure distress” is by “keeping promises to people who are unlike yourself.”

The country bumpkins supply the “elite” with what a human being needs to live. Food, Shelter, Clothing
The elite and their minions will be the first to go.
We just heard four years of elaborate conspiracy theories about Trump, and the Democrats say they are too smart to be gullible.
I grew up in a Liberal family and was surrounded by Liberals in a Liberal city during my 20’s and 30’s...... When I became a Conservative in my early 40’s, I had many revelations, but by far the biggest revelation was how much Liberals believe in conspiracy theories about the true nature of Conservatives, and how knowledgeable Conservatives actually are about Liberals
There’s no experts out here? Like college professors, veterinarians, engineers, artists, writers ...? Teachers, doctors, nurses ...?
We aren’t ALL stewing road kill over a trash fire in a rusted out oil barrel ...
I don’t think he realizes a cross section of people weren’t buying what “Our Betters” were selling.
And what will such backlash entail?

“Those of us in the Expert Class”...That says it all.
Let the expert class try to feed themselves.
Go ahead boys and girls, grow your “Biden/Harris victory gardens” on your verandas.
spurt:definition, drip under pressure...
The San Francisco originals were the worse. They had never been out of California but thought they knew everything. The winemakers, grape growers and redwood country people up north in Napa Sonoma and Mendocino were much more interesting
And what will such backlash entail?

May not be pretty from what I’ve read.

City folks may also want to review the pipelines and food supply chain links of the USA to see where they get energy and food from.
I wonder if Mr Brooks considers plumbers, electricians and HVAC journeymen to be experts. Let’s break one of his pipes and find out.
Who knew that when RED DAWN finally happened it would be fake-conservative “experts” parachuting in to herd us into the camps?
Destroying infrastructure, like power and water, are classic insurgency tactics. By doing so, you show the government’s inability to provide for and protect the populace. On the flip side, utilities like that can be used as a weapon against the people by the government. It’s already been threatened by leftists wonks, mayors and governors. In LA, they have threatened to disconnect people that disobey draconian plague rules, and in N. Cali, there was discussion of rural conservative areas being subject to rolling blackouts, with the politics of the area being a key factor in why they would have been chosen.
Both things are coming if the left keeps pushing Conservatives to the point where they finally feel they have no choice but to fight back martially.
Where does your food, water and power come from?
Signed, the Dirt People
They paid millions to create the RRR conspiracy theory.
And they still believe their own imaginary theory.
I have worked with what he calls the “expert” class.
To a point, I agree with him. They are so far removed and isolated they have no idea how anyone outside their little gated communes live. They go to the same schools, the same parties, the same clubs.
When I was in that role, some were constantly amazed that I had met “diverse” people. I grew up in Nebraska, were the US immigration service continually dumps refugees (can’t have them by the expert communes you know). I was taught commodities on a world wide basis, and lived in a very small community that was quite happy to be small.
They have no idea of what the world is. They jet to Thailand, stay at an all inclusive result, and claim they know all there is to know about Thailand. I was working at a plant out in the boonies in Thailand, and while I never got a hand on the language I got to know all classes of the area pretty well.
The “experts” need to get out of their bubble before it collapses and kills them.
s/b “ex-spurt”. Fixed.
