Arecibo Observatory Collapses

The Arecibo Observatory's platform collapsed this morning due to structural failure.

In mid-November, the National Science Foundation had announced that the Observatory would be dismantled because of the danger it posed.

It is hard not to look at that and realize that without humans to maintain structures, they will be swallowed up by nature pretty quickly.

Well, it is one of them. In the first part of the movie, she was working at Aricebo (where she met 'Palmer Joss', played by Matthew McConaughey). The place where she made her 'discovery' was the Very Large Array in New Mexico.

It's a damned shame and a loss to science.
