Sentencing probably will ensue. Sullivan will ignore the pardon, determine that the question of guilt is irrelevant to the sentence, and issue the maximum punishment to Flynn and also to his son. Flynn agreed to the guilty plea apparently to avoid the prosecution of his son, and his attempt to recant the plea violated the plea agreement, thus opening his son to prosecution for various almost assuredly fictitious crimes.

Why? What is significant about that day besides being the last day of Trump’s first term and the eve of his second inauguration?
Because the time between now and then is time the case could potentially be dropped, and then he could sue for damages.
