UW-Madison is moving forward on a plan to remove a boulder from Observatory Hill after calls from students of color who see the rock as a painful reminder of the history of racism on campus.
The 70-ton boulder is officially known as Chamberlin Rock in honor of Thomas Crowder Chamberlin, a geologist and former university president. But the rock was referred to at least once after it was dug out of the hill as a “ni--erhead,” a commonly used expression in the 1920s to describe any large dark rock.

Sounds like my late Father (who was a devotee of nuts and even had a nut pick set in a mahogany box) when I was growing up , calling Brazil nuts “nigger-toes”. I didn’t like it, but my fascination with how easy-going casual it was for him to utter it, displaced my unease. And he grew up on an Iowa farm near Des Moines in the 20s and 30s.

Oh boy is it gonna be fun when they try to continue the Covid BS. Full scale defiance and probably our first legitimate tax revolt since the Boston Tea Party.
That’s it...certain people are referred to as being dumb as a rock. The rock must go so the dumb people won’t be constantly reminded of the way they voted.

The boulder was called “Ni**er Head” long ago. The UW black students long ago were called “Ni**ers”. Why get rid of the one and not the other?
A neighbor of mine has a large rock shaped like a frog in his yard. Frenchmen everywhere are triggered. Time to sue.

Makes sense.You never heard of it when you were there. Most people probably didn’t either. But back then there weren’t cadres of SJWs poking around and finding insignificant bits of historical ephemera floating around in local lore, and then making an issue out of it.
