I posted this thread to focus on a mostly ignored state so far in the presidential/Senate/House race discussions. The Rocky Mountain State. No Trump rallies have come through here recently, which is curious to me given Sen. Cory Gardner's vulnerability and the fact that Trump only lost CO by <3 points four years ago. Plus AZ and NM border CO.
So why the silence?
Ground game: (Jul 2020 excerpt) The ground operation of the combined Republican campaign in Colorado which goes by the team name "Silver Bullet Brigade" dwarfs the GOP's field organization in previous cycles, with 46 paid staffers working out of 11 Trump Victory offices spread across the state, the party said.
Trump campaign, Colorado Republicans log 2 million voter contacts by volunteers
Fundraising: (Aug 2020 excerpt) Colorado residents have donated nearly $5.6 million to Trump, compared with $3.2 million to Biden, according to a Colorado Sun analysis of Federal Election Commission data through the end of June. Coop note: Article says candidate Trump raised <$500K from Coloradans in 2016.
Organizationally the pieces are in place for a strong Trump performance, which could pull Sen. Gardner across the finish line. Yeah, I know the polls are looking tough for Trump and Cory Gardner in CO. You likely also know how I feel about polls. For two reminders, in 2014 Mark Warner led in every poll, with a peak lead of 29 points, yet only defeated Ed Gillespie by <1 point. In 2016 Ron Johnson led in one poll and trailed in 29 other polls, often by double digits, to former Sen. Russ Feingold. Sen. Johnson comfortably won re-election. And how about those 2016 presidential polls? :-)
Pres. Trump seems to be doing well in AZ, NV, all the states surrounding CO, including NM. But trailing horribly in CO? Does not compute.
“I think a BIG factor in whether its a landslide is what do the Dopey Weed Man voters do?”
Every Dopey Weed Man voter with whom I am acquainted is to the right of Rush Limbaugh.
Of course, I wouldn’t be acquainted with any leftwads any way.
Unfortunately the pot heads have ruined Colorado.
Prowers used to be a solid red. Don’t know what it is now.
Also, I would like to see a Trump vehicle parade like weve seen in other states.
.......................
You want to add a vehicle parade to Front Range traffic? You’ll get more than honks and hand waves.
I wonder how many CO counties will have more votes than registered voters? It seems to have been swept under the rug when it happened, I believe it was 2012.
I think people in New York are angry at the governor and the mayor of the city. Those that havent fled to florida, may change their minds about Trump.
Your right about the previous numbers, but things change, especially with banks and wall street.
Please help me understand this apparent conflict.
I saw Trump ad last night for the first time in weeks. Looks like theyve made a buy so they must see something.
Spoke with CO DJ today who said that in 2012 WEED was totally the issue in CO. Said all his Libertarian friends were only voting based on that.
Could be interesting because in AZ this time (for, I think, the third election in a row) med marijuana is on the ballot and I think it will pass. I’m grudgingly voting for it, as docs are getting so ridiculous about painkillers.
I remember now.
Some friends of ours attended.
In 2016 he had one in Lakewood (I think?) only about a week before the election.
We saw him there.
Hope you're right!
Not gonna happen. NY is a lost cause.
I feel that CO is an uphill battle with Californians and other libs (I know some from out east) that have soiled CO. Left their wrecked states that they voted into that situation, and brought their politics to ruin another. I live in VA. Same thing happening here to some extent.
Colorado has gone blue and ain’t coming back.
“Spoke with CO DJ today who said that in 2012 WEED was totally the issue in CO.”
Probably true over on the Eastern Slope. Not so much on the other side of the divide. The major population centers are on the Eastern Slope, though.
“Im grudgingly voting for it, as docs are getting so ridiculous about painkillers.”
I want a law that any vet can slap any doctor in the face until they get off their smug high horses and dispense effective treatment.
The Denver-Boulder axis of evil is strong and Gardner has run a wimpy campaign
Sounds just like 2008-2016 posts about PA, MI and WI.
Its about the trend. For example, look at what happened in VA this past November AFTER all the scandals. Lets focus on the marginal blue states that we can actually turn like MN, NV, or NM.
Colorado has structurally changed in population with many many folks from California moving there. It really is going blue and I think most would agree.
I’m in Durango and have seen Trump ads every day for about a month. As many Trump ads as Biden ads.
