Cancer-stricken Rush Limbaugh says he can no longer deny he's 'under a death sentence'
Fox News ^ | October 19, 2020 | Brian Flood

Cancer-stricken talk radio legend Rush Limbaugh provided listeners a somber update on his condition Monday after recent scans showed “some progression of cancer,” which he said is “not dramatic” but still a step in the wrong direction.

Limbaugh announced in February that he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and had missed several shows this month to undergo treatment.

“From the moment you get the diagnosis, there’s a part of you every day, OK, that’s it, life’s over, you just don’t know when,” Limbaugh said. “So, during the period of time after the diagnosis, you do what you can to prolong life, do what you can to prolong a happy life. You measure a happy life against whatever medication it takes.”

Limbaugh, who recently hosted President Trump for a two-hour interview, continued the devastating update on his diagnosis.

“It’s tough to realize that the days where I do not think I’m under a death sentence are over,” Limbaugh continued. “Now, we all are, is the point. We all know that we’re going to die at some point, but when you have a terminal disease diagnosis that has a time frame to it, then that puts a different psychological and even physical awareness to it.”

I should have said that I hope it’s long in the future.

I don’t know if anyone is interested but I watched a fascinating interview today with Olivia Newton-John and her husband Amazon John Easterling and their efforts against cancer. Olivia is now into round 3 of her fight and she credits a lot to cannabis extracts and alternative therapies and she looks pretty good to me. This interview is apparently from August so it’s a couple of months old. It’s 55 minutes.

I had a dream this morning about Rush Limbaugh. When I awoke right after the dream, it was about 5:30.

Context: I haven’t listened to Rush in around 20 years. It’s just that I don’t watch TV or listen to the radio. Meaning, Rush is not someone who is on my radar, except to hope that the man is doing as well as he can be, and prayers for his healing.

Thus, I was really surprised to have a dream about Rush Limbaugh. I wish I written it down, but what I explain now is all I remembered anyway. I wondered if something would be in the news about him today.

What I recall, is that I was supposed to call in to his show, mainly to discuss a well-known female commentator (a friendly, but don’t remember whom). I was discussing this on the phone with Rush for quite a while. There would be four of these on-air conversations. The gist was two this week, two the next.

He gave me a number to call for the first one, what date/time I was to call, and that I was to ask for Rick. I wrote down the number and other info and repeated it back to him in the dream, but don’t remember what it was. He said that the call would last 4.4 minutes.

As the conversation kept on, I asked about his health. He was kind of vague. Not evasive, but that he faded out and “vanished” from the other end of the line, but had not hung up.

There was someone else in the room on my end, so I acted as if Rush were still on the line, and ended the call as if I were speaking with him, concerned for his health and wishing him well. After all, I wasn’t really sure what happened to him on the other end, only that he apparently was not on the line any longer.

FWIW

It is so difficult to read this thread. I cannot hold back tears. I’m just glad he’ll be alive long enough to see Trump win again. That’s all I wish for him, besides as much joy as he can muster in the days ahead. I will be devastated when he goes.

A client of mine was in advanced lung cancer given 6 months....they then opted for surgery...removed a portion of his lung...I met him as he was celebrating five years past and still going strong. So you just don’t know the state people are in without the details.

I heard the full disclosure today on Rush’s show and the headline is a perfect example of outright fear mongering and sensationalism. Rush said he was given a bleak diagnosis initially. He did not detail the type of cancer, but from his description it sounds very much like small cell lung cancer. It is certainly a deadly form of cancer, but there are worse cancers.

Rush said he has come to terms with his mortality. We will all follow in his footsteps (that is death). He has come to terms with his disease and the potential outcome, he said. He indicated he has a personal relationship in Jesus Christ, which has to be reassuring. Most people don’t face their own death very well

As a cancer patient myself I can tell you it is a liberating experience to have the time to make preparations and the mindset to accept and not fear the future. You learn to focus on the really important aspect of living when you are in that position. Rush said the same today. I fully understand what he meant!

Finally, he said the first two treatments did not work, but the third did. It stooped the growth but recently there were some nodules found. My guess he is going to one of the top cancer centers in this country. They have plenty of treatment options. So, he moves on to the fourth optIon. I have seen people go through 5 or 6 treatment regimens before they reach success.

Rush is a fighter and will not give up. That is worth a great deal for someone in his situation. Prayers do help, too. I believe hen will be with us for a while.

Prayers for Rush.

How old is he?

Hope he stays around long enough to witness the re-election of Donald Trump.

The man is truly amazing. Among so many other things, he has the top-rated radio talk show in the country - and is deaf.

Love him like family.

I remember listening to Rush’s first broadcast on Detroit way back in the late 80s. I thought, ‘Damn, he sounds just like Bruce Williams.’

You may not remember Bruce Williams or the fact that Rush used to do a very creditable vocal impression of him! I was hooked immediately and have been a faithful listener, missing protracted periods of the program only when my radio couldn’t receive the signal inside at my work location.

Thank you, sir. I have had a lot of laughs and a wonderful time learning some great principles from you. God speed, and God bless you.

Only God knows the outcomd but whenever it happens, hopefully far in the future, it will be a very sad day and a part of what means to be American will die too.

He has given so much to so many of us for a long time.

So heartbreaking that so good a man has to suffer and have his time cut short. God bless him and his family.

I doubt that! I worked in health care for 25 years. At a famous hospital that was very closely affiliated with one of the world's finest cancer treatment (and research) institutes.I've seen death...I've seen cancer.

What Rush was saying today was, basically, that he's been told that there's no hope of long term survival. He seemed to take that calmly...in an accepting way. I doubt that I'd be that brave in his situation.

Rush has clearly been a huge force for good in this land.Any guy who's been treated with as much respect by Republican Presidents, and with as much contempt by Rat Party Presidents, has certainly earned a place in history books.

Exactly. Biden’s press secretary TJ Ducklo is 32 years old and was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, last year I think. He got treatment and thankfully is doing ok. This is not the year 2010, or even 2015. A stage 4 cancer is not an automatic death sentence - like AIDS today isn’t a death sentence. AIDS used to be a certain death sentence but over time with advances in medicine became a manageable disease. Cancer is headed that way too. Although we aren’t at the point where all cancers are manageable for all people at all stages but that’s what will eventually happen. The important thing is for Rush’s team to navigate his course *correctly*. I cannot emphasize more the word ‘correctly’, meaning using the right therapies at the right time in the right order. It’s like playing chess against cancer. As long as you keep making the right moves you can keep your opponent from winning , such as by forcing a stalemate or a draw. But a wrong move could cost you the game.

Just speculation on my part, but I think he wants to keep going with the show at least until election day.

The very least we all can do is make sure he sees a Trump victory.

My first time was in August of 1989, in Houston, on KSEV... a startup radio station run by Dan Patrick, who is now the Lt. Governor of Texas.

I attended a work dinner one night. A friend, who was a screaming liberal, was talking about “some freak on the radio”.. I made a mental note to listen the next day.

At lunchtime, I turned on my car... switched the radio to 700 AM... and, heard a chain saw sound... and, some animals... and, Andy Williams singing ‘BORN Freeeeee’.... all I could think was, “What the hell?”? Then, RUSH started talking.

He told a hilarious story about officials in California spending MILLIONS of dollars building tunnels under highways for endangered turtles. After setting it all up, Rush said it would be cheaper and more effective to pay illegals to stand by the highways and CARRY the freaking turtles across the road. LOL !

I Was HOOKED! Been listening for 31+ years now.

NO ONE, in my lifetime, has been more influential than Rush Limbaugh. NO ONE!

Hang in there, Big Guy!

Concur, even better if the 22nd amendment gets repealed and Rush can see a full 3rd Trump term. A feller can dream, can't he?

Ah, so you worked at Mass Gen. Great hospital. I am not denying that progressing on a drug is a disappointment, especially if it’s the most promising drug in the arsenal. In Rush’s case the current one wasn’t. His best, most promising therapy was the first (induction therapy) which unfortunately he couldn’t tolerate. Maybe his team could modify the regimen and start him on the first one again. The thing is he is not at the stage where he is out of options and ready to roll over and die. I hope his medical team will consider experimental T cell therapies at some point. They don’t always work but if they do, the results can be quite dramatic. Eg Judy Perkins.
