there are likely potential buyers who might still be concerned about range, especially in areas without a robust charging-station infrastructure.
Newly Patented Range Extender in Its Bed

I read the title, and immediately got this mental picture of a fold-up mast with a sail...

Electric pick-em up truck? That's plum un-American.
Real American trucks have V-8 engines that gulp petroleum.

Probably cheaper, more efficient and reliable to just buy one with a gasoline motor under the hood. Could probably tow those dead electrics from just about anywhere.

“Its illustrations show a removable range extender that sits in the bed of a truck and looks like a toolbox. Inside the device would be a small motor, fuel tank, exhaust system, and electronics needed to hook it up to an electric truck.”
They have got to be kidding!?
A effn generator in the back of the dam truck?
There is one type of engine that could be used to power autos with success. A steam engine. With a bare minimum of moving parts most of the engines output can be used for the travel.

I prefer the old-fashioned range extender. It’s called a gas station.
To: RomanSoldier19
So this “range extender” basically converts your Ford F150 into a pickup truck version of the Chevy Volt.

So basically acremoceable gas engine.
Surprised they didnt maje a cab top of all solar panels to feed to a charge regulator going to the batteries

It took me a minute...
They don’t mean “motor” in the bed of the pickup truck.
They mean a gas engine running a generator.
So they’re going to put a fuel tank and a generator in the pickup of an electric vehicle, essentially turning it into a hybrid vehicle.
I suppose if it runs out of “fuel,” at least you could pour gas into it to fix the problem.

Newly patented Range Extender for electric trucks. It's called Gasoline.

“The range extender would act as a generator, recharging the battery of the vehicle using a small motor.”

To provide energy to make that run, it has an electric battery that has a generator to charge the elec battery, that has an engine that has it’s electric battery that has....

There is a rationale for this. When you are driving down a road at an even speed you use far less horsepower than when accelerating or going up a hill. One of the original concepts for electric cars was to have a small gas motor to keep the charge up as you drove along. You would be using
far less fuel. Using regenerative braking you also dump charge back in. You can get much improved fuel economy and, with an electric motor, you get vastly better torque than a gas motor could ever achieve. These ideas were developed long before eco-wackos adopted electric vehicles as the govt mandated solution to ICEs.

I was taught by the guys on the construction site where I worked in the Summer of 72 that a 6 pulled better than an 8! 😉
