Ms. Hicks also traveled with Mr. Trump to the first presidential debate against former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., the Democratic nominee, on Tuesday in Ohio. Attendance at the event was significantly scaled back to prevent the spread of the coronavirus; people familiar with the planning said that Mr. Trump had wanted people in the audience.
That an adviser with such proximity to other advisers has contracted the virus raised alarms inside the White House, where officials worried that other top aides may have been infected.
A White House spokesman, Judd Deere, would not comment directly on Ms. Hicks’s condition on Thursday night.
“The president takes the health and safety of himself and everyone who works in support of him and the American people very seriously,” Mr. Deere said. “White House Operations collaborates with the physician to the president and the White House Military Office to ensure all plans and procedures incorporate current C.D.C. guidance and best practices for limiting Covid-19 exposure to the greatest extent possible both on-complex and when the president is traveling.”
There is no one closer to Mr. Trump than Ms. Hicks, who returned to the White House this year after leaving her position as communications director in 2018. She has overseen significant aspects of the president’s daily schedule, and she works closely with Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner.

Why does everyone assume that it’s because he doesn’t wear a mask that he caught it. Plenty of contact points 24/7.

Because despite what many on here believe, masks do have a benefit. I have seen it here in New Jersey which was brutally hit by Covid. We had numbers going steadily down until September when they started to rise. That coincides with relaxing rules and the widespread abandonment of mask use by the public here. In early September you could see it just driving down the street, dozens sometimes hundreds of people who finally got some freedom walking around and very, very few wearing masks. I am not talking about remote outdoor spaces, I am talking about crowded sidewalks, beaches and outdoor eateries with people well within 6’ of each other. I despise masks too and don’t believe they should be mandatory but people really should use a little common sense. If you do not want to wear a mask that is fine but use your head and avoid crowded places.
I have an anecdotal account of mask efficacy... my husband’s business has 80+ employees and serves about 2000 customers/day (curbside). From the beginning, he has required masks, gloves and distancing at his business. If employees took off their masks they had to put a new one on and wash up. He also takes temp checks twice daily. It was hard at first (he is claustrophobic, but has gotten used to the mask). Anyway...
Other franchises in the same area were not as careful. Of the 20 or so around him, his is the only one that did not have a case of covid. The county he is in has had nearly 30,000 cases.
So, it’s anecdotal, like I said, but it is enough for us to keep doing what we’re doing. He wears a cloth mask with 2 layers of filti material which has been tested and the results were it protects equivalent to a N95.

Odd that several people on the debate team suddenly test positive - after being in close proximity to operatives and members of the leftist side. It will be telling if several more mysteriously test positive. Actually no, it won’t be mysterious at all. I think the SS should look into this as a potential intentional attack on the President.
I am kind of shocked by this, because I feel like even if I was around people with COVID, I would not get it, because I am following procedures to protect myself.
It always surprises me to find out that people are not doing this, as it doesn’t cost anything. I never hang around within 6 feet of anybody. Everybody at work wears masks all the time, we limit our meeting sizes, but I go further and simply make sure I never am talking close to anybody, and don’t hang around talking for more than a few minutes if I can help it; and when I can’t, I disinfect my hands and the area I sit before I sit down, and I do it again when I leave for the next person. I wash my hands when I have to touch things, although I am not afraid of touch actually.
I would assume that protecting the president would be more serious than protecting me.
I would love to find out how Hope got it. But it sounds like she might have been sick before the debate; because if she just met someone at the debate and got it, I doubt she would have been contagious enough to infect the president, and of course the report says she isolated on the return flight, so she had symptoms.
But as a close advisor, I am shocked they were not testing her every day, and it amazes me that she could have been infectious before the test detected anything.

I agree with you assessment. This looks very suspicious and it probably would not be that difficult to find a way to infect a desired presidential staff member by an enemy with knowledge and ability. Especially given that many staff members are young people who have active social lives away from the security of the White House. It makes them easier targets.
Thanks, I know we are labeled as fearpers but the irony is we are not afraid at all. We believe God is in control no matter what happens. But we have a responsibility to those under my husband’s employ as well as my elderly father in law who just moved in with us.
I am also shocked that people who should know better are so careless. I fully understand the pushback on mandatory mask wearing ect. But we really should be looking at the risk versus the reward. Some of us are not complying to make a point but that point kind of gets lost if and when you get sick. We don’t need dead patriots, we desperately need live ones.
The only way we can keep fighting for what is right, is by keeping ourselves, our families and our friends healthy and staying “in the fight”. I too get discouraged sometimes by some who do not take this seriously. I can only speak for my neck of the woods but in my little town many got sick and almost 10% of those died. They were not all old or infirm either. I followed the numbers every day and it was astounding to see how devastating this was on a local level. I just don’t see the need to be reckless with Covid19.
