The thought of Civil War has been in the minds of many people lately, on both sides of the political and cultural divide. This is not a thing to be wished for, though no one should kid themselves into believing it’s impossible either. Let us take a sober look at what such a conflict might entail.
To begin with, it would not look like the first American Civil War, which was essentially a war between two regions of the country with different economic interests. The divide created two separate countries, both initially contiguous, intact, and relatively homogeneous. The lines of demarcation now are only somewhat regional, and tend to correspond to differences between urban and rural populations, as well as differences of race and class. A second American Civil War would be much more similar to the Spanish Civil War, with the leftists dominating the cities and conservatives controlling the countryside. Conflicts of this nature, with enemies mixed geographically, are a formula for spontaneous mass bloodletting. India-Pakistan during the 1947 partition comes to mind as another modern example. Given an absence of legitimate government and the friction of proximity, ordinary people can be moved to settle grievances by killing one another without the need for governments to egg them on.
Some dimensions of a future civil war would be, I think, largely unprecedented. When lesser countries have imploded in violence in recent times, they have done so with most of the world around them still intact. There were other nations to offer aid, assistance and intervention, welcome or unwelcome. There were places for refugees to go. The collapse of the world’s remaining superpower would take much of the world down with it. A global economic crisis would be inevitable.

Like watching a remake of the Titanic, you’ve seen this movie before in Yugoslavia, Zimbabwe, Somalia, and other countries. The boat sinks.
Other nations will sit this one out. “Mom” and “Dad” are fighting and the “kids” are hiding under their beds in their rooms waiting to see which side might win.
Divisions along racial, tribal, and family lines. The settling of old scores leaves grievous wounds that won’t heal for generations. Most of the destruction in urban areas with cities becoming significantly depopulated. Those individuals who are notable will find that their prominence and fame ensures their and their families continuous targeting and certain death.
The upside is that the Left becomes extinct
IMO, roving gangs will attempt to break out from the cities and go foraging for food in the suburbs. The food supply is key in any upcoming conflict. As is water. Southern California can be brought to its knees by cutting off access to Colorado River waters.

Everyone seems to forget that the narrative during the Clinton years was that 50 ChiComm divisions were hiding in the Arizona desert. That was in 1994. These ChiComm divisions are now old enough to apply for social security.
So, expect to see thousands of Chinese drawing SS moving into your neighborhood and voting democrat.

I was born and raised rural, and keep in touch with my home country and the folks I grew up with. All mostly conservative. You are making the claim....prove it with data.
There is simply no way to make an accurate connection between hunting permits and voting habits...it "is" a secret ballot, after all. If even one statistically reliable survey on that has been done, I WILL be greatly surprised.

A house in the suburbs with only two adults cannot withstand a horde. Eight houses with 20 adults has a chance.
Upstate NY would never go along NYC and neither would "Jefferson" California so you would have war anyhow
All the comments here are interesting as a thought experiment, but all seem to assume that our side will fight effectively, and that it will be over rather quickly. It might be interesting to continue with the Spanish Civil War analogy.
The issue as it stands
Liberals have the will to wipe out Conservatives but they lack the means
Conservatives have the means to wipe Liberals off the face of the earth, but they lack and (unfortunately will continue to lack) the will.
It comes down to what happens when the power goes off,
1) Do Liberals riot and burn their own cities down and then turn on each other
2) When the violence pours into the burbs & rural areas Do Conservative finally get off their @$$es and do something
#1 and #2 need to happen or Liberals will win
That would not be civil war but invasion.
We are already in civil war and it’s going to get worse after the election.
“Marxist rebels may have foreign assistance” I believe that you can remove the word “may” from your sentence. The ChiCom’s are already financing the Marxist BLM movement.
Snipers everywhere will be a problem for the leftists if this happens. By the way, you can still get ammo in traditional hunting calibers, it hasn’t all disapppeared from the shelves yet. In the lefts own words, “nobody REALLY needs an AR15”.
The suburbs are not going to be much better off for food supply.
They need to go into the country for it and they will not get far that way.
Most people have no idea how to survive in the wilderness, nothing about water purification and exposure. They don’t know how to find food and live off the land and without food they will weaken and die in fairly short order. Many will die that way. Others will be dealt with by people defending themselves.
Yeah, and not to mention the right has 300,000,000 guns and trillions of rounds of ammunition while the left can't tell the difference between a boy and a girl.
I have no doubt 1 will happen and when the rubber meets the road, I think it’s likely two will happen.
Conservatives are not mentally deranged liberals who burn, loot, and murder for the heck of it.
We are not going off on them yet because the situation isn’t dire enough.
When it’s literally a matter of survival, many will do what they need to.
The other thing in our favor at the moment, is that winter is coming. Here in the north, that will contain things as anyone who tries to invade the suburbs or rural areas will have the added hindrance of fighting the elements.
People have no clue how to dress for the weather and hypothermia and frostbite will hit quickly for many.
The nicer weather is far more conducive to chaos and anarchy.
I’ve said for almost 2 years that 2020 may be the last “normal election the US as we know it” the nation ever has. It is looking like it may have been 2016.
Or it may be the “best election evah” normal or not.
As I said, I’m not out to sway any one. The numbers are out there, any one can access them with a tiny bit of effort and draw their own conclusions.
I don’t give out homework assignments.
Under estimating opponents numbers and skill sets...well, you know.
