Vanity: Could glossolalia be ACB's undoing?

Posted on 09/22/2020 4:43:38 PM PDT by EverTrumper

I didn't know there's a word for it, but google defines glossolalia as:

"the phenomenon of (apparently) speaking in an unknown language, especially in religious worship. It is practiced especially by Pentecostal and charismatic Christians."

I have a feeling that the Democrats aren't fighting back as hard as I expected on the potential ACB nomination.

They have a plan to destroy her, and maybe glossolalia (aka speaking in tongues) will be their means of attack.

I can see Kamala asking her, "Do you believe that you have the Gift of Tongues?"

“She is Catholic, I read that a religious group she belongs to, called People of Praise,”

She belongs to “People of Hope”.

Correction: This article’s headline originally stated that People of Praise inspired ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. The book’s author, Margaret Atwood, has never specifically mentioned the group as being the inspiration for her work. A New Yorker profile of the author from 2017 mentions a newspaper clipping as part of her research for the book of a different charismatic Catholic group, People of Hope. Newsweek regrets the error.

> I am a cradle Catholic and we DON’T SPEAK IN TONGUES!

You are apparently not aware of Charismatic Catholics.

You’ve made a common mistake I’ve made myself, namely confusing whose post you’re responding to. I am NOT the Freeper who posted the statement you’re criticizing here.

Simple. Just skip the committee hearing and bring the nomination directly to the floor.

Isn’t she a Roman Catholic? RCs don’t do no speaking in tongues...

The only thing really forbidden is espousing salvation in Christ by grace only through faith only, apart from works — the heart of the Gospel.

Nonsense, both your post and the heretical and non-Biblical protestant doctrine of Sola Fide.

To delve into religious convictions is the domain of the Spanish Inquisition

Nobody was expecting that!

Well, Newsweek already had that piece connecting her religious group with “The Handmaid’s Tale.” I didn’t know about either of them so I looked them up. It escaped me how this group’s practice of having spiritual mentors for women and overall spiritual discipline could have inspired the female slavery depicted in the “Tale.” Turns out there is no connection and Newsweek cut loose a whopper of a lie.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised about anything they might come up with, but well-placed people on our side need to make sure they fight back.

Why are you apologizing? I assumed the thread was about Adjusted Cost Basis (ACB).

Or maybe it’s about the Association for Clinical Biochemistry.

Or the African Centre for Biodiversity (ACB).

Who knows?

"Please. You can listen to people do that and it's obviously not language, it's just gibberish."

In our church, whenever anyone speaks in tongues publicly, there will be someone who will give the interpretation. Many times it will be a prophesy of great significance to the church body.

When Jesus spoke to the masses of all that had gathered, each person regardless of their language, heard the same sermon. He didnt speak first in Aramaic, then Hebrew, an so on. He spoke his language, and through the miracle of God, those that were there heard it in their own language.

The “speaking in tongues” at the charismatic churches is nothing more than people expressing themselves during worship. If they believe the Holy Spirit is moving them to do so thats fine as well. However, to some it is bizarre

That has been my experience. When I have heard people “speaking in tongues”, it is not a recognizable, linguistically-defined language as was the case in Acts when Pentecost occurred. Paul mentions speaking in the “tongues of men and of angels”, which I guess could include either a defined language or the non-defined category. I asked one of the people who engaged in the practice about it and he said said something about a “prayer tongue”, which I cannot find a scriptural reference for but I have heard no prohibition against, either, in any Catholic doctrine. So if the ‘Rats try to use it as a wedge issue, they’re basically going on another fishing expedition.
