WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday vowed to hold a vote on President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee before the November election following the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“President Trump’s nominee for this vacancy will receive a vote on the floor of the Senate,” McConnell (R-Ky.) said on the floor of the chamber, warning of a cultural war over filling the influential role.

McConnell says there is “overwhelming precedent” for the Senate to act quickly on a nomination.

“The Senate has more than sufficient time to process a nomination. History and process make that perfectly clear,” McConnell said, noting that Ginsburg’s nomination was filled in just 42 days.

“I think Republians know there is simply no choice but to confirm prior to this election, it really is a no-brainer and a win win.”

Hey I don’t want to be a buzz kill. It’s just I have noticed Mitch says what he means. I deduce that he is not sure he has the votes yet.

I agree with you. But even McConnell has to be smart enough to know the reason Republicans even have a Senate majority is because of Trump.

“The Dems will pull of those 24 hour speeches and no matter who Trump selects, the Dems will have a lot of fake accusers lined up.”

that’s not going to happen ... Lindsey Graham and the other GOP Judiciary member will set the committee rules on this hearing, and McConnell and the GOP Senate will set the rules for the full Senate hearing, and the rules will allow only limited debate and be limited to a limited number of witnesses specified at the beginning of the hearings AND no surprise, last-second witnesses ...

The blurb makes more sense as to why RBG hung in there when she could have retired and let Obama name her replacement.

The buzz is....wait for it.......Ginsburg wanted Hillary to replace her with Obama.

I'd like to see McConnell and Graham say that they will only allow hearings on anything new since the prior committee hearings, since they were only a few years ago.

Mitch HAS the votes. If, on some weird circumstance he doesn't, he will after a few 'friendly' chats!

“I expect illegitimate, leftist courts to interject their fake authority in this process.”

it’s not possible for lower courts to interfere with the directly specified Constitutional duties of the Senate (or the House for that matter) ... even SCOTUS has refused to interfere ...

I’d like to see them fill it before the election. What I REALLY want to see, however, is that it is actually filled by a CONSERVATIVE.

How can anyone know for sure?

“I’d like to see McConnell and Graham say that they will only allow hearings on anything new since the prior committee hearings, since they were only a few years ago.”

that’s actually an interesting idea, and it might make a pretty good starting template for the rules for the new hearings ...

Problem is, once you give them a forum, any forum, they will abuse it and not keep to only new information.
