What you need to know about Barbara Lagoa

President Donald Trump is closely considering two conservative women to fill Ruth Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court.

According to people familiar with the process, one of those potential picks is Barbara Lagoa, a seasoned Florida judge with Cuban roots.

Here’s what you need to know about Lagoa: A trailblazer for women and Latinos

A Florida native, Lagoa was the first Hispanic woman to serve on the Florida Supreme Court. If nominated to the nation’s high court by Trump and confirmed by the Senate, she would be the second Latino justice to ever serve. Current Justice Sonia Sotomayor became the first when she was nominated by former President Barack Obama.

If nominated and confirmed, Lagoa would be the fifth woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She's been vetted

Trump nominated Lagoa to serve on 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2019. She was confirmed by the Senate in a bipartisan vote, which could help ease her path to the court if she’s selected by the president again. She could serve for a long while

At 52, Lagoa would be the youngest justice on the Supreme Court, just a few months behind one of Trump’s other nominees, Neil Gorsuch. A lifetime appointment to the court would allow her to serve for decades to come. A deep legal background

After graduating from Columbia Law School, Lagoa worked as a pro bono lawyer for Elian Gonzalez’s family and later as a federal prosecutor. Lagoa then spent more than a decade as a judge on a Florida appeals court before being picked by Gov. Ron DeSantis to serve on the state’s supreme court.

"She has been the essence of what a judge should be,” DeSantis said when he nominated her.

Lagoa is married to Paul C. Huck, an attorney. They have three daughters.

>> For openers, I trust PDJT’s instincts on picking a nominee, WHOEVER <<

And that is how we ended up with Neil Gorsuch on SCOTUS.

Thankfully Bush nominated Harriet Miers instead of Trump, because you guys would have cheered her on, too.

“What’s with all these foreigners who have ties to other countries being considered to rule over us.”

it seems many native born whites have been burning down our cities and toppling our statues!! I’m sure a Cuban American appreciates America more than these privileged white elites.

I fear that Lagoa would prove to be a poor choice in many ways.

What’s with all these foreigners who have ties to other countries being considered to rule over us.

That is a damn good question, and in my view the fewer newbies to the USA who get hold of the levers of power the better I will sleep at night! We had one of them from Kenya whose supporters are even now attempting to burn the damn country down!

Yea, I’m not convinced either from what I’ve seen thus far....especially she hasn’t much under her belt Just appointed last year for where she sits now. She’d be leaning on who else but Sotomyer for help .....not a good match.

You see a lot of angst here because some of us have done our homework and have reason to be so.

His business did not prepare him for selecting SCOTUS appointments. These are lifetime positions he can’t fire if he doesn’t like what they do.

I’m going to trust pres Trump-he did fine on the two justices he already got on the SC-he didn’t make all that money in business by letting himself get conned...
..........................................
Our great President has surrounded himself (or allowed others to surround him) with quite a number of traitors and backstabbers during his first term. There was Sessions of course, but there have been many others. Mattis and Kelly also come to mind, and there have been numerous others who have worked to undermine him at every turn. Didn’t he also appoint that asshole Wray? Bad choice.

Because foreigners are on average more educated, more ambitious and more hard working than average US born Americans. This is not my opinion it is statistical fact.

Wow you can’t figure it out?
It is so simple....it will be lot harder to vote against a Latina woman than a white woman.

Nothing, except you guys would be high-fiving each other if Trump picked the same crappy judge. The fact we're now stuck with Gorsuch for decades because you "trusted Trump" that Gorsuch would be a Scalia clone is proof of that.

We certainly don’t need any one who is unlikely to get 50 votes in senate. Nomination does NOT get you on scotus. 50 votes does.

Haha that is such illogical comment because Trump has picked so far exemplary candidates.
