WASHINGTON (AP) Bahrain has become the latest Arab nation to agree to normalize ties with Israel as part of a broader diplomatic push by President Donald Trump and his administration to fully integrate the Jewish state into the Middle East.
Trump announced the agreement on Friday, following a three-way phone call he had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The three leaders also issued a brief six-paragraph joint statement, attesting to the deal.
The announcement on the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks came less than a week before Trump hosts a White House ceremony to mark the establishment of full relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Bahrains foreign minister will attend the event.

Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
If we lived in a sane country, CNNMSNBCCNBCFNCABCNBCCBS would be walk-to-wall overusing the word historic.
They have always been threatened by Iran. That wasnt enough for them to recognize Israel. Its something else.
Great point. Theyre quickly running out of Flying Monkeys about the same time President Trump made us energy independent and cut off their allowances.
The Iranian people are ready for the Go sign.
Now the Dems and the Deep State are going to have to work even harder to blow up these agreements and get the wars started again.
“At this point Iran may blink. Perhaps before the election. If the dominoes continue to tumble like this theyll be badly outflanked.”
If not before the election, then after Trump is re-elected. I’d like to be a fly on the wall...
“Oh crap. Trump won. Even CNN calls it.”
“What do we do now, O great mullah?”
“Go back to negotiations and lie some more.”
Wow! Gives me chills...maybe there really will be peace in the Middle East at long last...thanks to one Donald J. Trump.
“And bring me the head of John Effing Kerry...”
RE: So you are saying it wasnt these Arab nations fault that Israeli recognition was impossible to come by previously, but rather an insistence by prior administrations that the Palestinians be part of any agreement?
Yes, and also the very fortunate CHANGE of regime in these Arab countries. Saudi Arabia happens to now have a more moderate ruler in place.
There is also one other factor mentioned by others in this thread — the growing threat of Shiite IRAN to dominate the middle east ( see Yemen ). Now that Trump has boxed the Mullah’s into a corner, he is using American might and protection as leverage. The fact that Israel faces the same threat as these Sunni Arab countries and has ALWAYS kept her part of any peace deals ( e.g. Jordan,Egypt) is another catalyst to the peace deals.
I’m sure the Saudis approve. For example, they let Israel-UAE use their air space to establish direct connections. The Gulf states take their cues from the Saudis. The fact that 2 of them have already made deals and Oman is widely expected to strike a deal with Israel next tells you the Saudis clearly approve of this.
They see Iran is the big threat (correctly). They recognize Israel hates Iran as much as they do. Israel is also strong and would be a useful ally. What do they have to lose? The “goodwill” of the Palestinians? Who cares?
Lacking any evidence to the contrary, your thoughts are convincing. It makes me wonder how, if this is the case, previous administrations could have been so inept as to insist on Palestinian approval for other Arab/Israeli relations? Perhaps the moderation of Arab rulers does play a part as well. Sometimes its just a matter of good timing that you can get opposing parties to agree?
I’m sure Greta the Grump is the designated winner.
IMO the fact that Trump has proven our advanced ability to quash terrorist movements by taking out their leaders with drone strikes has given those moderate leaders the courage to proceed with these deals.
Good stuff.
” I am wondering what the incentive was that has finally changed their minds.”
Iran. All those explosions and other acts are hurting the regime there. This is scaring the crap out of every nation in the middle east. Last thing these countries need are their oil wells, ships, storage facilities and infrastructure mysteriously blowing up.
If you are a friend of the US and you become a friend of Israel, maybe these incidents won’t happen to you.
The idea of Saudi Arabia coming to accords with Israel has an interesting back story. Which gives some validity to Biden’s argument that this process of accepting Israel by the Arab states was started under the Obama administration! (Bear with me here.)
The Obama administration was clearly pandering to Iran. This alarmed the Arab states who had always depended on the U.S. as a force to restrain Iran. The Saudi’s became so alarmed that when the Israeli’s were planning a possible air raid on Iranian nuclear facilities, Saudi Arabia offered them air bases for refueling. So, yes, the actions of the Obama administration forced the hand of the Arab nations to cooperate with Israel. However, I don’t think Biden would want that part of the story told widely.
I wonder how many more he has up his sleeve.
In my fantasy he has one for each week leading up to the election with the last week being some kind of stellar agreement with Kim of NK.
IT REALLY IS...NOTHING SHORT OF ASTONISHING,,,,
Yep. Israel has been providing Gulf States with security consulting, and sometimes equipment and manpower. Its been going on for several years.
Economic development is also involved. Backgrounder:
War is easy, peace is hard.
I think the Muslims in the middle east are becoming more afraid of the Muslim in Iran then the Jews in Israel.
With peach comes prosperity.
Money, it's a hit ...
Just a guess.
