17-year-old arrested in killing of 2 people in Kenosha

KENOSHA, Wis. — lllinois police have arrested a 17-year-old after two people were shot to death and another was injured during another night of Black Lives Matter protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Kyle Rittenhouse, of Antioch, Illinois, was taken into custody Wednesday in Illinois on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide. Antioch is about 15 miles from Kenosha.

Two of the victims shot Tuesday night, a 26-year-old Silver Lake resident and a 36-year-old Kenosha resident, died following the shooting. A 26-year-old West Allis resident suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.

Videos circulating on social media show a young white man opening fire in the middle of the street with a semi-automatic rifle.

“I don’t need more guns on the street in the community when we are trying to make sure that we keep people safe. Law enforcement is trained. They are the ones who are responsible. They are the ones we have faith that they’ll do their jobs to make sure it gets done,” Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian said. “It would be beneficial and helpful for everyone to realize that.”

Wednesday afternoon, Kenosha Sheriff David Beth, police Chief Dan Miskinis, Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser and Mayor Antaramian gathered for a press conference to discuss the ongoing civil unrest and the shooting that happened Tuesday night.

Police said their investigation is ongoing, but police are working to have Rittenhouse transferred to Wisconsin so he can face criminal charges. According to Lake County, Illinois, court records, Rittenhouse has an extradition hearing scheduled for Friday.

“What I can’t tell you is what led to the disturbance that led to the use of deadly force by this person, and if both deaths are related to the same person,” Miskinis said. “I don’t know that at this point.”

The shooting was met with condemnation from political and community leaders alike.

Gov. Tony Evers said in a statement that he is grateful law enforcement officials have already made an arrest in connection to the killings.

“A senseless tragedy like this cannot happen again. I again ask those who choose to exercise their First Amendment rights please do so peacefully and safely, as so many did last night,” Evers said. “I also ask the individuals who are not there to exercise those rights to please stay home and let local first responders, law enforcement, and members of the Wisconsin National Guard do their jobs.”

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul called for unity following the shooting, saying that anyone involved in violence and destruction is causing division in the community.

“Kenosha residents deserve the opportunity to grieve, come together, peacefully protest, call for change, and heal. The heavily armed vigilantes, arsonists, and other opportunists who have come to Kenosha to attempt to spur chaos have interfered with that and caused drastic harm to people,” Kaul said. “If those engaging in violence and destruction of property believe they are furthering some broader goal, they are wrong. They should leave Kenosha.”

Freedom Inc. a non-profit group based in Madison condemned the shooting in a statement shared Wednesday afternoon and called Rittenhouse a white supremacist.

“These shootings, as well as the presence of white supremacist militias at uprisings for Black lives across the country, are designed to suppress Black people who are rightfully fighting back against generations of murder and exploitation by the state,” the statement reads.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department announced the emergency curfew in Kenosha would start at 7 p.m. each night beginning Wednesday and continuing through Sunday.

The county had previously enacted city curfews, including at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, the day Blake was shot by police. Then at 8 p.m. on Monday night and Tuesday night. The shooting during protests that took place Tuesday night happened after the city’s 8 p.m. curfew.

“Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul called for unity following the shooting”

As opposed to truth.

The kid did a great job based on the videos I saw.

Tried to flee, kept his cool, showed situational awareness, and did not shoot until forced to.

This was not wanton killing like antifa and BLM do.

Why aren’t they giving out the victim’s names. They know them, obviously since they do name their town of residence.

Do they have criminal records the media want to hide?

This circumstance of defense is fairly straight-forward.

As defined under Wisconsin Statute 940.01 (2):

(b) Unnecessary defensive force. Death was caused because the actor believed he or she or another was in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm and that the force used was necessary to defend the endangered person, if either belief was unreasonable.

There’s the thought that sometimes charges are over the top because they know that there’s no way a jury can convict them based on the evidence. He is then acquitted.

HOPEFULLY, that’s what’s going on here.

This poor guy will be eliminated by the left and he’ll probably get life in prison with no parole instead of a medal. I’ve lived it, even if you don’t fire by just defend yourself on your property, you’ll wish the bad guys killed you.

The cops and court system are that bad.

Yes it seems so and it is sickening we live in an age of what the NAZIS did in the 1930’s. Soros remembers his history and these people like Twitter, FB, Go fund, the media and many major companies are acting like those did back in NAZI Germany.
We have our guns and still they attack us, and now the poor patriot kid who was doing good for a kid his age now faces this crap. Disgusting.

The TV station quotes Freedom, Inc. It’s an ultra left wing organization that works low- to no-income communities of color in Dane County, WI. “Our mission is to achieve social justice through coupling direct services with leadership development and community organizing.” This shows where the station stands, and why fake news is fake news.

I saw the video, which I imagine will be taken down so people can’t see what really happened. He tried with all his might to run away from them, but was ‘cornered’ and in danger of losing his life to them.

This right here. Wathed the videos as well. The pursuers acted like it was a video game - might not be a wise decision to try to pummel someone carrying an AR-15. Just saying.

I have never seen a more compelling case for self defense before. He was being beaten by people with skateboards and one of the guys he shot was holding a pistol.

There is no way in a just society that this kid should be facing charges. He’s a hero.

Righteous shoots in my estimation.

He was attacked by numerous attackers, some had firearms. What is he supposed to do? Acquiesce and die? Or subdue his attackers?

As to tactics I would prefer standing off and whacking these outlaws.

More so than even that...the thing started with him running away from the armed mob chasing him. He wasn’t even standing his ground...he was trying to run away peacefully.

If Mayor John would let the police do their jobs, maybe civilians wouldn't have to do it.

I watched the live streams last night, and the only time the police did any policing at all was when they got out of their armored vehicles to protect the EMTs that were trying to help the idiots who got shot. As soon as the EMTs were gone, the cops climed back in their armored vehicles and just watched, like they had been doing all night before.

I was watching last night on FR YouTube links.
It was total chaos.. some were reporting that the ‘guy in the green shirt’ had gone over to the car lot to defend that business from being destroyed. The mob turned on him and he shot one.. He then was chased down the street (one street reporter said he was screaming he had shot someone) where they again attacked him unsuccessfully.
The Left says nothing about the 30+ deaths over the last 3 months of riots.. but now that citizens are fighting back they are outraged.

If you pull your trigger on the Democrats, you better keep pulling it on the State when they come to throw you in the rape tank!

If we had any sense at all we would be building a network of safe houses for these situations.

“...what idiots would chase and attack someone with a gun...”

It concerns me that they didn’t retreat, run, hide, whatever.
That shows a level of determination, whether founded in conviction or stupidity, that does not bode well.
