Wow what a difference a night makes... 10 MB pressure drop and now a strong, symmetrical storm.

She needs to get over land quickly.

I thank you NautiNurse for doing these threads.

And I thank God this hurricane is not coming my way. Here in Delaware we had a helluva time with that recent tropical storm with the oddball name.

I am older and now terrified by hurricanes.

What a monster.

@BigJoeBastardi

Houston spared but from the Golden Triangle to Lake Charles this will out do Benchmark storms of Rita and Audrey. I think its 930 mb 145 mph at landfall,
Destructive winds maintained well inland also IMO

Does anyone know if the models are ever off this close to landoff... after they have all converged? Besides minor shifts...

Could be bigger. The biggest and smallest Tropical Cyclones for comparison:

(Ironically, of these two storms, Tracy did more damage, even though Tip was more powerful. All depends on where it hits.)

https://abc13.com/lake-charles-buses-leave-with-evacuees-before-lauras-arrival/6389383/

Authorities in Lake Charles didn’t wait to order everyone out of the area. Mandatory evacuations were ordered Tuesday for Calcasieu Parish, which impacted more than 200,000 residents. Neighboring Cameron Parish to the south is also under a mandatory order.

As the populations of Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes began to leave, those who couldn’t get out on their own took a bus.

For any of you in counties north and northeast of Houston, our electrical power comes from the Entergy plant in Lake Charles. We are not on the same power grid as Houston. Hurricane Rita knocked out this plant for a couple of days.
