China is the United States strongest competitor in cutting edge military technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing, according to a US report.
But security experts said the location of a conflict remained a major constraint for China to exercise its power as the nations advantages diminished the further from Chinas shores that its military operated.
The report Emerging Military Technologies: Background and Issues for Congress by the US Congressional Research Service said the US was the leader in developing many of the advanced technologies. However, China and Russia were making steady progress in this area.
China is widely viewed as the United States closest competitor in the international AI market
Recent Chinese achievements in the field demonstrate Chinas potential to realise its goals for AI development
Such technologies could be used to counter espionage and aid military targeting, said the report, which was released in early August.

The advantage China has is their AI development and the stolen AI from the US. Way too many spies and Americans willing to sell the information to the Chinese.
The stole everything from us. Had some Chinese visiting a company here in Upstate. Employees were told to clear their desks and “just keep out a crappy memo or something”.
You have bodys, we have bombs
Yes because I base the truth I want to get from the South China morning Post. Another big threat to America that will never materialize. Everybody’s got a plan
So foolish to spend a single day making Russia our enemy. China is the enemy of both nations, along with the Islamic world China is buying up and connecting to it through “Belt and Road”. We better damn well start partnering up with what should be our natural Western, Christian ally very soon.
I see how well stealing something and using it gets you. we will build upon what we have and they will not be able to. I can’t believe over and over and over and over and over through 20 years on this board the crybaby side faggets that thought at once even Iran could beat us in the open seas
Keep an eye on India by jove...
I’ve worked with Chinese engineers before. They are excellent at math and programming exactly the way they were trained. They are very good at memorizing and testing. But they seemed completely inept when it comes to original or innovative thinking. Without American ingenuity they would still be in the dark ages. For over 50 years we have given them, or they have stolen, every technological advancement they have made.
India just kicked their ass
There was an article in the Washington Examiner a couple of months ago about how our war-gaming experts showed China coming up the winner EVERY time. Of course, that’s all on paper at this point. Whether they invented the technology or not, it appears they’re prepared to fight & win. We’re too busy fighting ourselves.
We make a joke about it, but it starts with "hold muh beer." Innovation requires not being afraid of innovation and the culture mavens who are just happy with things the way the are, and their perch on a position of power.
But our cancel culture and their fellow travelers on our side of the aisle are working on fixing American ingenuity as well. It derives from white culture.
You have bodys, we have bombs
````
They have bombs to and very accurate missiles to deliver them. Winner has the most bodies standing after
PS the US has no real missile defenses against a near peer like China
“We better damn well start partnering up with what should be our natural Western, Christian ally very soon.”
Old habits die hard.
The inability to logically project a future is the basis of this ignorance.
“PS the US has no real missile defenses against a near peer like China”
It’s ludicrous to consider China a “near peer”.
While there’s recent rumblings about a push to produce more nukes, the US military thinks they have “about” 300. No more than 100 that they can deliver on an intercontinental basis.
We have 550 on top of ICBMs ready to go right now.
And that doesn’t even count the Trident boats, or the B-52s. Much less the thousands of bombs available to tactical aircraft.
It’s not even close.
Especially within the context of conventional superiority too.
And we probably trained most of them at our universities.
Personally, while this may be true to some degree, part of me is thinking this is a gambit play by the military industrial complex to get more money for such programs.
Bingo!
Many of us while we were yet in high school decades ago imagined that was the best workable alignment we could achieve for global stability.
