Anti-police protests erupted Sunday night in Kenosha, Wisconsin, just hours after a police officer was filmed shooting a black man in the back as he tried to enter his car.
Crowds of protesters first gathered at the scene of the shooting — where 29-year-old Jacob Blake was struck several times in the back and seriously injured — before making their way to the police station, according to local reports.
Footage posted to social media shows protesters banging on the station house window, screaming “F–k the police.”
Police later deployed tear gas, TMJ4-TV reporter Lauren Linder tweeted.
In another clip posted to Twitter, protesters throw what appears to be molotov cocktails and bricks towards police standing near a patrol car.
One officer appears to get struck by a flying object, knocking him to the ground.
Elsewhere in the city, dump trucks and garbage trucks that were placed at intersections were lit on fire.
Blake was shot at about 5:10 p.m. local time after police responded to the location for a domestic incident.
The footage circulating on social media of the shooting shows two cops with weapons drawn trailing Blake as he walks to a gray van and opens the driver’s side door to get inside.
One of the officers then grabs him by the back of his tank top and appears to shoot him at close range. A fusillade can be heard, followed by a car horn, and bystanders screaming.
A family member told Milwaukee’s WTMJ-TV that Blake’s children were in the vehicle when cops shot their dad.

I am a white boy and had the crap beat out of me while Innocent, polite and compliant.
Got no justice from the judge either, but the cop and the sheriff both ended up in the federal penitentiary.

The fellow had a warrant out. When the cops came to investigate a domestic violence event (two women fighting) they naturally turn to the man, probably because of their “domestic violence trying.”
He wants no part of it, and doesn’t want to give his name to the police because he’ll then be arrested for the warrent, and figures he’ll just beat it.
Cops won’t let him do that, follow him to his car and shoot him when he reaches in, thinking he MIGHT have a weapon ( he doesn’t)
Don’t know what the warrant was for, but it seemed like he was doing his best to take care of his kids.

Apparently there were children in the car. The police do not know the intention of the guy. Accessing the car could have meant getting a weapon or driving off and endangering the children. There is a whole lot nobody knows about this.

I’ve found that with all of these shooting videos over the years with cops shooting black guys (except for one) they all have a common theme: The dead guy is responding to the cops in a way that I think would get me shot. And I’m speaking as a guy that used to get pulled over an average of three times a year.
I never ran. I never talked smack. I never reached in hidden places, I was never high, etc. In every case I’ve seen on a video, it wasn’t the guy’s race that got him shot. It was his actions.
A lot of cops, including two cousins on the NYPD, live by the bromide that their first responsibility is to safely get home to their families each day. Understandable but then choose a different career. You never hear firemen say the same thing.

Same situation. Resisting....taser not working....makes it back to car...procures gun (probably stolen).....tries to kill everyone on site. Good shoot IMHO. You NEVER let a detained person return to their car in a hostile matter.

That is part of the problem is the human factor. Under extreme durress people are more likely to do stupid things. The rioting has only increased pressure on the police and incidents like this are more likely to happen.
I really think we need a mandatory sentencing law for resisting arrest. Something like 5 years in jail for resisting arrest. Just make it really freaking obvious that being a jerk and walking away, or running away from the police is a stupid, stupid move. We see these cases where a guy gets shot -- because he's being dumb, It should be part of the culture that even if you manage to avoid getting shot, you WILL be going to prison. So just don't be a jerk to the cops.
So now, instead of showing the convention this week, the networks will be covering the rioting and looting in Wisconsin. How convenient.
