VACAVILLE, Calif. How many things can go wrong at once?
On Wednesday millions of California residents were smothered by smoke-filled skies as dozens of wildfires raged out of control. They braced for triple-digit temperatures, the sixth day of a punishing heat wave that included a recent reading of 130 degrees in Death Valley. They braced for possible power outages because the states grid is overloaded, the latest sign of an energy crisis. And they continued to fight a virus that is killing 130 Californians a day.
Even for a state accustomed to disaster, August has been a terrible month.
Across the state there were 23 major fires reported on Wednesday and more than 300 smaller ones.
In the San Francisco Bay Area alone there were 15 wildfires, most of them burning out of control and feeding off the grasses and shrubs desiccated by the extreme heat. Thousands of residents were ordered evacuated in the wine country of Napa County and from the hills above Silicon Valley in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties.

Only in a Democrat run state could the “big one” perhaps improve things.
After all, survivors could rebuild the state to pre 2000 standards, thereby insuring rapid growth and restoration to a livable states.
That is, IF and ONLY IF the survivors make sure that progressives are NOT included in the class of “survivors”.
Yahoo doesn't mention riots, increased crime, and lockdowns.
Kalifornia, here we come!
Like a cancer collectivism is spreading.
Waiting for the locusts to appear.
I wonder why all the environmentalists are so quiet about what really caused all of these fires.
That was Tucson’s June. OK we avoided blackouts. But we had those riots (ours were pretty mellow, it’s a Tucson thing) and a curfew.
Blackouts for Newsom and California,
Wildfires rage daily they say,
Theyre moving to a slower pace,
Lookout for poo everyplace!
Blackouts for Newsom and California,
Even down by the bay where everything is gay,
Blackout for Newsom and California,
Come on Californians enjoy all the suck.
To make matters worse they are emptying their prisons and not holding violent criminals after “bail reform.”
California is an incredible state blessed with natural resources, great weather, and prosperous industries. Despite all of that, it is a trainwreck of governmental failures, high taxes, and liberal lunacy.
The exodus will continue as the state descends further into the abyss and the entire country will ultimately pay for it.
Well, CA also got 7000 lightening strikes in one night, each of which ignited huge fires—but yes, CA should have been “raking its forests” etc and never does (there was lots of other fire mismanagement too).
And I’m hoping now that the rest of the US can see what happens with changing to “green energy”—rolling blackouts where CA residents all take turns using electricity—that people will take note and vote accordingly.
Gods gentle love taps. Turn back to me and Ill heal your land.
Maybe?
Not to worry California, non cognitive Joe promised at the convention to resurrect the high speed rail project even though your gov says you no longer want it
California burns every year.
It has been so for millennia.
Man cannot stop it. We can only lament the loss.
We sold our home in California just last month. Goid timing!
Elections have consequences.
You keep forgetting that most people are awful slow learners and most will only change if it hurts their pocket book or threatens heir life and a good part is complacency combined with apathy which is beginning to set in. To mind comes professor Alex Tyler’s statement and the public along with our politicians do everything possible to prove him right.
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.”
“From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
“The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years”
“During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage”
Fires, Blackouts, a Heat Wave and a Pandemic, riots, looters, burned out cities, homeless, drug addicts, and illegal immigrants......oh my
Liberal refugees, don’t vote for what you fled.
