Live coverage of a wildfire with lots of potential consequences
Great post/link/scrolling comments at link. Thanks for posting, Oscar. HEALTH/LIFE BUMP!
Sounds Huve and Serious
Hm. Power out and persons trapped. CHP considering closing 505 at Vacaville.
I have an Air Force buddy there. I’ll check with him.
If you are trying to be funny, it is not the time. Evacuations and threat of losing everything is not a joking matter.
How do I know? We have been put on evacuation notice twice in the last 4 days. The fire threatening us has burned 70 square miles since the weekend.
If you were being a jerk then FU.

New evacuation orders for parts of the city of #Vacaville. Police are going door to door. This fire is NOT A JOKE. Leave if you are told to leave.
There are not enough firefighters to do structure protection. This is a live-saving event ONLY! #LNULightningComplex
I’m looking at satellite pics of the Vacaville area. I can’t believe the number of homes that have blown off the FEMA-recommended 30 foot safety zone.
Because I live in Nevada. We still do prescribed burns in wooded areas. Burning sage brush allows non-native species to invade that are much more prone to massive fires.
but not impossible to time the burning to maximize the benefit. California fails to recognize any of the benefits of fire.
Steve is by no means conservative, but he DOES seem to jump right on things of broad interest
I’ll check with Hugh if he’s not smacked out out of his house
He was just making fun of my fat fingers on thin keys, I’m sure
It’s the same old story year in and year out. It’s summer and hot in California. So we have our yearly fires and power blackouts. Nothing new.
I have been watching wild land fire(s) impact for longer than the author of this paper, you posted, appears to have been alive. Cheat grass ALWAYS wins at least in the short term. It takes decades for the sage brush to recover. The author even admits that subsequent burns may be required to restore balance. As I look out my window I can see a very large burn scare that is 21 years old. It was treated using the techniques in this paper - twice. It is still visible and part of burned completely out of control just a few weeks ago.

It is was in in mop up phase with a crew assigned to hit hot spots until just a few days ago.
Why?
The reason is simple. he lives in California and has absolutely no control over his own destiny
At least we saved all those densely populated trees from the Lumber Mills.
Yep, I’ve heard those trees SCREAM as they got whacked up.
...(or maybe it was a drive belt that was a tad bit loose???)
Cheat Grass
