Black, Latino and American Indian and Alaskan Native people were disproportionately hospitalized for Covid-19, according to a new analysis of 12 states' populations published Monday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.
...
In a nearly two-month period from late April to late June, there were 48,788 cumulative Covid-19 hospitalizations in the states that reported race and hospitalization data -- Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
"The share of the hospitalizations of White patients was substantially smaller vs. their share of the population in all 12 states," the authors found.
The authors found that the opposite was true for Black patients -- their percentage of hospitalizations exceeded the percentage of their representative proportion of state population. This was highest in Ohio, where Black patients accounted for 31.8% of hospitalizations and are 13% of the population. Minnesota, Indiana and Kansas also had particularly high rates of hospitalizations for Black people compared to the population.
Of the 11 states that reported the number of Covid-19 hospitalizations for Hispanic patients, 10 had hospitalizations for Hispanic patients that were higher than their representative proportion of the state population. This was most pronounced in Virginia, where Hispanic people accounted for 36.2% of hospitalizations, compared with 9.6% of the population.
...
American Indian and Alaskan Native populations, but in some of these states there was a substantial disparity. For example, in Arizona, this group account for 4% of the state's population but 15.7% of the hospitalizations. In Utah, this group accounted for 0.9% of the state's population, but 5.0% of hospitalizations.

Sounds like Whites were not treated as well as other populations and not hospitalized as often as they should have bwen.
I thought there was a correlation between obesity, type 2 diabetes and the severity of infection of covid.
Blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans tend to have a higher incidence of these health problems. Therefore, more covid issues.
What a surprise. The surprise is that racism was claimed sooner.
Impossible.
All races, ethnicities, cultures, and sexes are equal.
If this turned out the other way, they would claim white people are getting better (hospital) care.
Urban areas are hit worse than rural areas due to population density. The percentage of minorities in the urban populations is much higher than in the entire state, and likely pretty close to the sickness percentage.
Oh, the population in the urban areas is dense, alright.
So people who as rule live close together in large numbers have higher numbers of infections and hospitalizations? Who would have thought!
“I think the virus is targeting DNA of certain races...”
I always thought it was made to wipe out Western whites or at least destroy our Western economies so China can take over.
Africa has a very lowest death rate, 22k out of 1.2 billion people. India is also low.
US blacks dying form it because they are obese.
Asian/orientals have the very lowest death rate of all races.
Still haven’t found that racial disparity in IQ though.
the white people just dealt with it, got over it, and kept working
that’s why
Does this mean reparations are due from the Chinese? /sarc
My understanding is that there are two reasons for the higher rate of COVID among minorities.
The first is that they are more likely to live in crowded conditions.
The second is that they are more likely to be working at a “front line” position like grocery store clerk, and so forth, where they are exposed to the general public.
They are less likely to have jobs where they can work from home.
Black, Latino and American Indian and Alaskan Native people were disproportionately hospitalized for Covid-19,
***Uhmmm....seems like the medical community tried harder to deliver superior care***
Shouldn’t the phrase be change to the more apt:
White people were disproportionately NOT hospitalized for Covid-19,
“Africa has a very lowest death rate”
I was thinking they were targeting people of dark skin. I must wonder if the rates in Africa are low because they do not have a good system in place to track deaths.
The obese point is a good observation.
Exactly. The article itself admits (in the last line that nobody will read) that the stats were not adjusted for underlying conditions.
This is more race-baiting propaganda to send vaccines to ethnic neighborhoods before Granny in the nursing home can get it; didn’t Mooschelle or some SJW already float that idea?
They can have my vaccine. I’ll wait and see how it goes.
I remember the Surgeon General was attacked as racist by the Left when he tried to appeal to ethic groups, Latinos and Blacks in particular, because of the higher incidence of underlying conditions.
Just wait till they study sickle cell anemia...
Arizona is reporting
5% of those hospitalized are black & non-hispanic
3% of those who died from Covid are black & non-hispanic
I have no idea what percentage of the general AZ population is black. But that sounds like the regular mix to me.
Whites and hispanics run at 65-70% for hospitalized and death.
