~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: U. S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot, Colorado

COpeublochem1

The Pueblo Chemical Depot is a chemical weapons storage site located in Pueblo County, Colorado, United States. The Pueblo Chemical Depot is one of the last two sites in the United States with chemical munitions and chemical material.

The Pueblo Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) which is under the Program Executive Office, Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (PEO ACWA) program is currently destroying its stockpile of 155mm and 105mm artillery shells and 4.2-inch mortars, all of which contain a form of the chemical agent mustard.

COpeublochem6COpeublochem6COpeublochem6COpeublochem6COpeublochem6COpeublochem6

COpeublochem5

The depot houses 2,613 tons (2,369 metric tons) of mustard agent in approximately 780,000 munitions, equivalent to about seven percent of the original chemical material stockpile of the United States. Destruction operations began at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant in spring with full-scale operations beginning later in 2016. Destruction of all munitions is expected to be complete by Dec. 31, 2023.

COpeublochem4

Sulfur agent is destroyed through neutralization and biotreatment. Energetic components are first removed through robotics and disposed. The weapon body is then robotically accessed to wash out the sulfur agent using water at a high pressure.

The sulfur agent is neutralized with caustic solution and hot water producing a byproduct of hydrolysate. Biotreatement occurs when the hydrolysate is further broken down with microbes, producing biosludge and water. Biosludge is filtered and sent to a disposal facility.

COpeublochem3

The plant will operate until all the chemical weapons have been destroyed. Closure activities (shut-down, dismantling, and restoration of site) are slated to be wrapped up by 2023.

PuebloPlex will head the redevelopment of Pueblo Chemical Depot. Once the mustard agent has been treated and environmental restoration is complete, the depot will be transferred to the community with possibilities of solar farming to contribute energy to the military complex in Colorado Springs, Fort Carson, Peterson and Schriever Air Force bases.

Good evening, radu...sure hope your heat wave is getting tired and leaves soon. Good luck in your search efforts.

I am headed back to work. The day was going pretty well until the error report at 4:30p. Most all are mine with the new project for the new company. When is this going to end!!! *sigh*

Very true. We’ve found a few treasures in the rest of Clara’s house but there’s been a lot of junk, too, like what’s visible in that pic. The woman threw nothing away.

I started getting to some cool stuff last night but ran out of steam. Hubby said there’s a large-ish metal bomber model in there somewhere. Not sure what kind though. If it’s something good enough, we’ll donate it to the military museum.

I found a small globe with stand that I’d like to hang on to. I didn’t scrutinize it but just glancing at Africa, it appears to be fairly old.

Even once I’m past Clara’s stuff, there’ll be junk. I married into a family of hoarders going back generations. LOL

Summer’s just beating all of us up this year, isn’t it? We had decent temps last week - mid 80s - then went back to “sauna” over the weekend and it’s not letting up. It doesn’t help that it rains everywhere BUT HERE. If we don’t get decent rain this week, the cotton is toast. It looks really bad now. So does the yard - - brown, brown, brown.

Glad you were able to make it out to the range. You’ve been put off several times in the past.

That room isn’t all Clara. Hubby said it was full when he was a kid, then Clara added more to the hoard over the years. Her stuff in there is plain JUNK, as evidenced in the pic. I’m wanting to get my hands on the previous two generations’ stuff. It’s a large room plus there’s attic space over the rooms upstairs, accessed from that room. I don’t know that we’ll live long enough to accomplish the full mission. LOL

Hey there, Kathy!

We’d LOVE for the heat wave to poop out but it still seems to have plenty of steam. Gonna be toasty all week and probably beyond.

I’ve put off going to work on the hoarder hellhole about as long as I can and need t get started. The house should be cooled off enough now. Just finished supper so I have some energy to burn.

Dang the luck. That new company needs to get on the ball so you don’t get stuck with so many errors.

You KNOW when it’s going to end. ;-)

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this road trip journey.

How's everyone this morning?

Howdy, luvie.

LOL! Clara sure was a champion of messes but from what I’m seeing, she came by it honestly. OMG, I hope I survive this.

How’s Smokey doing these days? Still eating well?

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

How’s it going out your way? Did you get any rain a little while ago? I see you have a system moving through similar to what’s starting to move through TN. If nothing else, the outflow should cool things off a little for now. We’re already getting a little cool breeze.

You and Gizmo have a good time yesterday?

Nothing really astounding was uncovered tonight but that's not really a surprise. LOL! A LOT was bagged to be burned or hauled off but there were a few things worth saving for yard sales in the future.

One thing I'm keeping is a cute little clock. Cleaned up a little, it'll look nice hanging somewhere in here.

Well, we had a lot going on yesterday. I downloaded a brand new updated version of Windows 10 for my standby computer. Also downloaded associated updates. I also downloaded an update for Apple iPhone.

And then, I had to manually pay the utility bill on xPress. Xpresss Bill Pay is the system our city uses for those who want to pay our utility bill online.

Well, it showed our bill being due 9/15/20. That's September an automatic bill pay on 9/9/20 which is September. This is August, not September so we ended up having to manually pay the utility bill to avoid being overdue and risking shut off

And then the utility guys came by and did some tree trimming on the power lines a block down from us.

We did have a line of winds move through bu it didn't blow too hard at all. No loss of power.

Here are some pics from Comanche Lake yesterday.

A busy day for you, wasn’t it? Bet you’re glad to get that all behind you.

Weird that your electric bill was dated wrong.

It looks like Gizmo dragged you all over creation yesterday. LOL!

Bummer that you didn’t get any rain yet but it looks like there’s still a chance for you to get some. We just had a nice, heavy shower move through and did we ever need it! I hope it was enough to snap the cotton back. It’s looking awful the past few days.

I’ll bet you’ll be glad to get it all chucked out. But that clock is really nice!

Smokey is doing well. He can eat that chicken so fast! LOL! His fur is beginning to feel softer. Still super skinny, but not quite emaciated now. He’s awfully sweet.

So glad Smokey’s appetite has finally kicked off. He needed it. His little body has a lot of catching up to do but it’s off to a good start since his coat’s improving already. If he does as our starved strays have done, his weight will suddenly increase almost overnight soon.

I doubt we’ll ever get that house completely cleaned out. Hubby doesn’t do much of the work and I know I can’t do it all. I’ve done a LOT already but there’s still a lot in there. If we could have done this 20 years ago when we were younger .......

I was trying to find out a little about the clock but there isn’t anything distinctive enough on it to go by. It does appear that it was made in 1905 though. It doesn’t work but it’ll make a nice decorative piece.

Oh, WE HAD SOME RAIN a little while ago! Got .3 of an inch out of the heavy part and it’s still sprinkling a little.

Yay! Great that it rained. Every little bit counts. Maybe there’s more to come.

He seems to be happier now, and that’s making me happier. If things continue to improve, we’ll take him for his vaccines before long.

Now I guess I’d better go. I didn’t sleep well last night and it’s caught up with me. See ya tomorrow for the quiz. Already!

We are thrilled to get rain. I’ve been mad since the afternoon when I went to get meds for Sabrina and it rained while I was in Tullahoma. It was headed down here but I knew it wouldn’t make it, and I was right. It ran out of water about 2 miles north of us. *sigh*
This makes up for a it a little. It’s raining again now. Started heavy and is now raining lightly again. Just what the doctor ordered.
Of course, Hubby won’ be very happy when the grass shoots up again and needs to be mowed. LOL

He’s bound to be happier now that he’s feeling better. I can’t wait to see pix of the “new” Smokey in the near future.

I hope you sleep better tonight. I guess the heat’s making it difficult, huh?
Catch ya for the quiz.

If you see words like “BELGIAN CONGO” or ‘UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA” you know the Globe is really old. Like my first globe, which was also a piggy bank. :-)
