The state of California does not have the financial wherewithal to afford the White House's plan to extend expanded unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday.
Newsom said in his daily coronavirus briefing Monday that the state would have to cover 25 percent of the costs associated with a $400 per week unemployment insurance payment, as outlined in a memorandum President Donald Trump announced over the weekend.
That 25 percent would amount to the state spending between $700 million and $3 billion in taxpayer funds per week. The state would have to make sharp cuts to public services to foot that bill, Newsom said...

I think it could mostly be covered with unspent funds that have already been given him for responding to the virus.
Of course a lot of it has no doubt been spent to put the homeless in hotels and buy them drugs, booze and women.
Maybe he should have thought of that before he forced everyone to be unemployed.
Well Gruesome Newsom, MAYBE if you were not giving out EDD money to fraudulent people..I heard the story about the guy in Florida who received 12 letters from EDD from fake addresses in California..yeah so people are committing fraud to collect EDD, meanwhile Ive been waiting since March and have yet to receive a dime but the illegal aliens and fraudsters can collect
I heard some county in California is paying over $1000 to those testing positive for Covid-19 if they stay home and o not work.
If these idiots have enough money in their counties to do moronic stuff like this, then I’m more than confident that can find the funds one way or another. When do the idiots in California’s government ever fail to spend more money? Now they suddenly become fiscally responsible?
