Democrats’ ‘War Game’ for Election Includes West Coast Secession, Possible Civil War

Democrats are contemplating secession and potential civil war as they game out possible scenarios for a closely contested election, according to a report by Ben Smith in a New York Times column Sunday.

The bulk of Smith’s column is devoted to the question of how the media will handle Election Night coverage, given that the result may not be known for weeks. Vote-by-mail, which many states have only recently adopted — ostensibly, to prevent the spread of coronavirus in polling places — could lead to an uncertain result.

[...]

In one scenario, John Podesta — the former chair of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and a leading figure in party circles — played former Vice President Joe Biden, and refused to concede the election.

The result: the threat of secession by the entire West Coast, followed by the possible intervention of the U.S. armed forces:

Would love to see that. Then we could outlaw the Democrat parties of those states, all their officials and all their elected reps.

The United States will not remain a world power if we give up the West coast harbors.

I would not assume the right owns the military. Obama spent a lot of time and effort on military promotions and the top generals along with the colonels and Majors are pretty liberal these days. The military is full of Vindmans hese days and the top generals have opposed much of Trump’s agenda and simply refused to carry it out that is why the military is full of twinkies and cross dressers.

And Stanislaus will be the center of southern defense and operations.

“Southern Command” if you will.

The left holds both coasts and most of the ports. They’d also retain most of the Air Force and nearly all the Navy. The South lost the Civil War because its commerce was cut off. That might well happen in a second civil war with the same outcome. The west coast especially could probably count on Chinese and even Mexican aid. Europe too would be mainly sympathetic to to the seceding states. Russia and the Islamic world ditto. Unless the left could be crushed quickly they being more ruthless than the right would consolidate power in their areas very quickly and be able to put forces in the field more rapidly utilizing a more highly developed infrastructure.

Where are you going to find the navy to blockade those ports? The Navy is mostly based in California and east coast blue states. It would fall mostly into the hands of the secessionists. Mexico and Canada would sympathize with the secessionists so blocking off the land border would be problematic. It is rather the inland core of red states who likely would become isolated and blockaded.

Sadly yes. California a once great state, has deserted you. Your function has been relegated to taxpayer

Exactly.

Plus we would be giving much of the west cost to foreign powers.

Who would eventually use this base of operations to attack the remaining part of the US.

The fact that one of the two major political parties is actually discussing this is unbelievable but not unexpected...

Texas GOP Flirts With Secession

"During an hour-long fight in the middle of the Friday platform vote, secession advocates tried to force back into the platform language that party leaders had dropped the previous night. “The federal government has impaired our right of local self-government,” the proposal claimed, setting up the potential for a statewide vote so that Texas could reassert its right to return to its original status as an independent nation."

If those states were to go thru with seceding the Military I don’t think would go along...

Get the ships out of port and use them.

Not all of them would be out to sea, call the ones on deployment back to blockade the ports....

If you just blockaded LA and SFO that alone would cripple them..

Besides what countries would still want to trade with these 3 states if Trump or any other President told them it would be considered an act of war if they helped the 3 states....

My point is I don’t think it would be hard to cut those 3 states off from just about everything....

“2/3rds of California counties voted for Trump.
They would immediately secede from California and remain with the union. You casually write off lots of Americans”

This^^^^ that which cannot be understood by most outside of CA.

I don’t think Texas is going anywhere....it was probably a small group of upset Texans and even at that time didn’t represent the highest level of the Republican Party....

The Democrats are discussing this at a National Level and actually planning out the scenario.....

They have no oil.

California has no oil? You might want to check on that. California actually ranks just behind Alaska for oil production.

Outside Bakersfield.

“I’m putting my money on the farmers, working men and hunters in the center of the country over the coastal Jellies.”

And if the west coast decided to break away, what do you think the farmers, working men, and hunters of the west coast states would do?

There are probably more of them in the Sacramento Valley of CA than in most of the states you describe.

Read the articles. Some Democrat wonks are gaming out election scenarios as hypotheticals, one of which leads to a threat of secession. The Republicans are actually having floor debates and shouting matches at a state convention over the idea.

“California a once great state, has deserted you.”

CA has not deserted anyone, those running it have. Love my state, hate those who are running it into the ground.

CA, in every measurable way, is superior to almost all other states. More natural resources, more deep water ports, more oil, more gold, more board foot, ect, ect, ect.

But those on this site, along with all so called republicans, have written us off? Why? If the GOP could win CA, they would never loose another presidential election. Why no fight?
