Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has extended the state's mask order through Aug. 31, as the state continues to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The order requires masks or face-coverings to be worn when people are within six feet of someone from a different household in indoor spaces that are open to the public, vehicles operated by transportation services and outdoor public spaces where 10 or more people are gathered. It also specifies that masks are required in schools and colleges, where possible, for employees and students in second grade and above
The extended order comes as Covid-19 case counts and hospitalizations have remained elevated in Alabama in recent weeks.
Here's a look at what the mask ordinance means for businesses:
According to the state, the order requires businesses to take reasonable steps, when practicable, to encourage mask use by employees and customers.
The state offered signs encouraging customers to wear a mask as an example. It also created signs that can be used by businesses.
The order does not require businesses to deny entry to people not wearing masks, although the state notes that restaurants always have the right to deny entry and said doing so would be a reasonable step.

Actually the mask policy here in Alabama isn’t all restrictive. Not required if you have a breathing difficulty and no medical proof is required.
Which is absolutely the stupidest thing I ever heard.
Since no one has yet invented a mask you can eat through, then theres no point at all in demanding people wear one walking ot their table.
There is no way to vote her out-- she isn't running for re-election, so she can do anything she wants. There is no practical way to remove her from office (aside from the obvious, but not ready to go there yet). There is no way to stop the mask order, since she has 10,000 businesses and stores that will enforce it for her.
WE LOSE. Like always.
IRRELEVANT. The order is enforced by businesses and stores. I can’t even leave my desk at work without a mask. I need this job, but I am SICK of wearing the Mask of the Beast.
SCARED ALABAMA GOVERNOR REMAINS FRIGHTENED
Nevertheless, many parts of this order are far more reasonable that their parallels in most other states:
The order requires masks or face-coverings to be worn when people are within six feet of someone from a different household in indoor spaces that are open to the public, vehicles operated by transportation services and outdoor public spaces where 10 or more people are gathered. It also specifies that masks are required in schools and colleges, where possible, for employees and students in second grade and above
Better than the blanket "all business and public indoor spaces". Mask or "social distance"...you really don't need both.
Much better NOT muzzling kindergartners and first graders...especially since teachers need to watch mouth movement in speech exercises.
According to the state, the order requires businesses to take reasonable steps, when practicable, to encourage mask use by employees and customers.
"encourage"...not "REQUIRE"
The order does not require businesses to deny entry to people not wearing mask
‘We anti-maskers are apparently such a tiny minority, and the Mask of the Beast advocates have such power, that we can do nothing else.’
the face mask crowd have conferred sainthood upon themselves; just read any FB thread about this and some of the most self congratulatory baloney, embarrassing really, will issue forth...
of course, one needn’t go to FB to see this; plenty of Freepers have engaged in this nauseating self idolatry as well...
FIGHTING the wearing of MASKS right now is a political loser.
Other issues are better. Every minute fighting the mask issue is a minute lost on other better topics.
Well stated.
Virtue signaling is one of the real plagues of our times — along with malignant narcissism.
And neither of those closely related plagues is likely to burn our like this epidemic seems to be doing.
Not that I have seen. I have yet to wear one here in Alabama except once when I had to go the VA in Murfreesboro Tn.
We are vacationing this week on a Alabama beach. Gone numerous places and have not worn a mask. Stores cant enforce it. We are out numbered but still see many not wearing them. I refuse to live in fear.
Tell that to the Karen's that won't let folks shop mask-less in stores they don't even own.
‘The order does not require businesses to deny entry to people not wearing mask’
uh, yeah it does, actually...’the order requires masks or face-coverings to be worn when people are within six feet of someone from a different household in indoor spaces that are open to the public’
there is nothing the least little bit ambiguous about that line...and in any regard, this is how a business will
encourage’ someone to mask up...
‘Tell that to the Karen’s that won’t let folks shop mask-less in stores they don’t even own.’
maskless...? how about going in with the damn thing under your nose...what we really need are supermarkets that only serves men...
‘Stores cant enforce it.’
yeah they can, if it’s worth the trouble to them...if they call the cops, you will be vacated from the premises; on that you can bet your life...
I saw it at the beginning. All the freepers getting on their knees putting on sheep masks and congratulating themselves for it. It’s the blue armband with the Star of David.
At first, I argued with them, but it’s no use. I just can’t believe how many of them there are.
However Kay Ivey and her medical expert both standing maskless at the end less than three feet from each other!
“DO AS I SAY..........................”
Fine yourself, Governor!
Yes, but her day is coming! Just remember that.
