The Seattle NHL team will be called the Seattle Kraken.
For months, fans have been debating what the name will be, with the Seattle Sockeyes often trending as the top pick.
The Seattle Kraken was also a fan favourite and ultimately became the top choice.
The announcement was made in front of nearly 300 construction workers Thursday morning who are building the new arena for the team.
Its only right and proper to announce the Kraken name, mark and colors here with the men and women working so hard and meeting every challenge to build our new home, Seattle Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke said in a release.
We were intentional every step of the way making this decision. We listened to our fans, thousands of them face-to-face and tens of thousands more on social media. We were determined to align with who we are as an organization and as a city and region.

The logo is clever.
I’m not being sarcastic, but to me the logo has kind of a Nazi feel to it.
The “Seattle Innocent Lives and Business Destroyers”. And that’s no joke.
That is a stroke of genius!
It’s about as fine as the Seattle Imp, or Seattle Demon, or perhaps the Seattle Troll....lame.
Once people get used to it, complaints will go away.
The Packers got their name because they were sponsored in the early days by a meat packing company.
I wouldn’t say that. Kraken have been in 2 major motion pictures. OK one’s a remake of the first, but it got a sequel too. And really what are most of the things in sports. Seahawks don’t even exist in myth, it’s just a thing they made up. There’s a college that are the Billiken, I had to look those up.
Stupid name. My vote was for Redskins
Learn them, love them, USE THEM.

Yes, I can hear the announcers now. “Wow! He just got body-checked by a host of Kraken! My oh my!”
Sorry, it’s a lame name.
Well most of the complaining is because some people just gotta complain. Whatever they named the team 90% of these people would be whining.
And yet Packers fans are cheeseheads. Really most team names are silly. But you gotta pick something. Often it’s something that the wife of the founder likes.
It’s fine, you just like to bitch.
And what’s with this Kraken nonsense?
>>So they pick a creature from Norse mythology? Boy, talk about racially insensitive.
Yes, but the Kraken of myth attacked and destroyed merchant ships (i.e. evil white capitalists). So that counters the white supremacy thing...
At least name the team something where you can refer to an individual player as single member.
Now I know some might point out the the success of the Alabama Crimson Tide. I’m on the fence about this one. The only reason people don’t make more of it is the storied past of the team.
But to take a group of players and give them the singular form of an animal or creature is...I’m sorry....lame. At least when you name a team “The Force” or “The Fury”, its an abstraction that sort of works. But to name then the “The Chicken” or “The Potato” or “The Tigershark” just doesn’t jive.
Kraken is an obvious cryptoracist dog whistle referring to the baseless racist claim that pre-freebased cocaine is in wide use in the peaceful neighborhoods of color throughout this racist country. /s
Well the other popular polled name was Sockeyes which from my perspective Kraken beats. Kraken eat sockeyes for snacks.
