Sports Should Be a Distraction
A happy, wonderful Thursday to all of you, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing readers.
Major League Baseball is back today and anyone who has been reading the Briefing during the plague knows what that means to me. Baseball is far and away my favorite of all the sports, and I want to be ecstatic today. Unfortunately, tedious wokeness has invaded MLB just as it has every other sport.
The anthem kneeling thats been infecting the NFL for a few years has spread like a cultural cancer to other sports and is threatening to permanently ruin what was once a relaxing escape for millions of Americans.
Perhaps sports fans should feel lucky simply because it took politics and the wokescolds longer to start bothering us than it did Hollywood. Movies and television have been full of cringe-worthy wokeness seemingly forever now. For the most part, we fan types have still had our favorite sports to retreat to when we wanted to avoid the madness of turning all entertainment into a political statement.
It was super fun while it lasted.
I have always despised the mixing of politics and sports. In the early Twitter days, I would spend Sundays blissfully tweeting about football, commiserating with other Steelers fans when theyd have a Mike Tomlin day, and trash-talking with other fans. On the rare occasions when someone would make something political I would launch into my no politics and sports rant, then usually block the person.
The peril in those days came from fans politicizing sports. We didnt have to worry about the players much then.

Get woke, go broke............................
Totally agree with your lineup.
Top loser, MLB. The fan base tends to be older, and uh, well, white. Is that rasis?
Next, NFL. NFL seems to be on a march to show how woke they are.
Finally, NBA. Not much damage, the NBA and it’s fans are mostly all in for wokeness.
For me, its the NFL. I never thought the day would come when I didn’t want to watch it anymore. But that time may have come.
Second, in my world, is baseball.
I put NBA third in my world because I long ago stopped watching or caring about the NBA, despite growing up playing competitive basketball and closely following the Sixers of the Dr. J era.
Thankfully, my favorite sports to watch, NHL hockey and PGA golf, have remained relatively unaffected, and I will continue to happily follow them.
Don’t expect the NHL to follow the insanity. Kind of rough kneeling on the ice, even with pads. Then standing up on one skate leaves too much opportunity or pratfalls.
Nascar
I'm sure they will ruin golf and tennis soon enough.
Suffering catfish, this is a heartbreaker.
I believe COVID protocols will blow up all pro-sports.
College sports will probably follow. And I will miss watching college sports, but I will if they go woke.
LOL1 Black Nags Matter! :)
They don’t care about you. The people that pro sports pay to analyze viewership demographics have all decided that millennial and younger SJW’s are the future.
I think pro sports have calculated the anticipated conservative viewership drop, which is probably a tiger with no claws because for all the gnashing of teeth about it, there’s still way too many conservatives that cannot break their sports addictions.
The NBA is a subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Party. The NFL is owned by whites and its working employees are 75% black. Not much different from ante bellum plantations where white owners live in fear and struggle to stay in control. A majority of the workers seem to live well for a while but suffer physically and eventually die broke. MLB is way past its prime, kids no longer play baseball on their own and the sport is conused and scerotic. Capitalist owners donate money to marxist BLM and wonder why their business is suffering.
How long until it spreads to horse racing?
= = =
What about that movie Black Beauty?
Agree. NHL also will lose big if they go there.
I’m done with any sport that has an element of politics to it. It is a shame because I love sports so much. However, there is room in my heart to love other things just as much. I didn’t miss football one bit last season, that that by far used to be my favorite sport.
1.) MLB I gave up on the NFL and NBA years ago, and MLB was my last sport to watch (aside from golf). MLB has the most to lose as they have been immune up to now to the flag disrespect. In many parks, they sing (sang) God Bess America during the 7th Inning Stretch.
2.) NFL - they recovered a lot of lost fans when the kneeling diminished. Now that it will be full force, I expect them to lose fans. Getting woke during a pandemic is pretty stupid for them.
NBA - won't suffer much. Basketball arenas are small compared to baseball and football. They should still be able to attract fans. NBA is basically part of black culture already.
The sad thing is that some people will put on their blinders and stop up their ears and continue to watch. I won't. My remaining sport will the the PGA.
